Making temp dl'd files (streamed vids) permanent

Is it possible to have a video fully loaded/streamed in a firefox/browser and then move that video to the actual hard drive so it's not a temp file that will disappear if the browser crashes.

I can find the file in the temp downloaded files folder but I can't drag that file (PART File) onto my desktop or something because it is being used by my browser still. Even if I do drag that file onto my desktop is it then considered a 'permanent' file because it is no longer in the temp folder or will it still disappear when I shut down the browser.

    Hope that made sense.

when you stream something, depending on the player, there might only be so much in the buffer that's actually on your disc. Furthermore, the stream might have some kind of DRM so only the player will play it and only under certain conditions (especially proprietary players like Netflix).

So, you'll need a downloader. Without knowing the site/player you are trying to get video from, it's hard to recommend one.

I think I made my buffer large because I stream a lot so it's probably a gig or so and the files are mostly shows at 350mb or a movie at 700 mb. I stream divx stuff from NinjaVideo.net or IceFilms.info - HQ DivX TV & Movies and I'm pretty sure the whole thing get's dl'd to the temp folder.

I played a second video that is still in the temp folder from the day before but no longer used by my browser and it played fine in WMPC so the file is fine to play it's just making the file not disappear when the temp folder gets flushed is the problem.

ninjavideo uses its own proprietary player and i'm sure there's some DRM associated with it. even if you are downloading the entire video file, youll likely have trouble playing it outside of its proprietary player unless its just a codec issue where you can get the codec support for it in an alternative player. have you tried searching the web for something like "ninjavideo codec" ?

I'm not exactly sure if this is what you want... but I'll go ahead and mention it anyway:

    For a DivX movie...

Change the cache to your preferences if needed... it shouldn't delete videos as soon as you close your browser. Open the DivX cache folder (...Documents\My Videos\DivX Movies\Temporary Downloaded Files usually) and just copy&paste where you want. As long as you aren't streaming the cached file it should let you.

    Hopefully I helped somehow...

Do you have any idea if when I copy the file to where I want if it is still considered a temp file even if it's not in the temp folder. Like (as in your picture above) it would delete itself if it was on my desktop for over 21 days. I probably won't keep it longer than 21 days anyway but it would be good to know if it was something I wanted to see again.

It shouldn't... DivX only monitors that temp folder so anything outside it it shouldn't touch. I've got a few "temp" DivX movies from like a year ago in my public sharing folder. x.x

If it's just a straight up Divx video with no DRM i don't see why he would have problems. but he seems to want stuff that uses proprietary players and the only way I know to bypass that stuff is to literally "record" the stream with a downloader. Kind of like recording songs off the radio with a cassette tape.

    holy shit i'm old.

do you faggots know what a cassette tape is?!?!? LOLOLOLOLOL

try downloading using the DownloadHelper mozilla addon, it picks out most videos that are streaming and you can just dl it, if its in your cache it will just steal it out of there or will re DL from the source if it has to.

I use FlashGot to download vids played in flash, but it will also work for WMV, MOVs, AVI etc. etc.
