PS3 Stopped playing DVDs

My PS3 has recently decided that it doesn't want to play DVDs. Games and Blu Ray movies work just fine, but when I put a DVD in, all I get is the little circle up in the top right corner like it's working on trying to read it, but it never shows up. Anyone else know what the problem might be?

Never heard of anyone having this problem before, that's weird. The 2 most common problems are YLOD's and Blu-ray drive malfunctions, but you say Blu-Rays work fine. Have you tried messing around with the settings for DVD in the system settings? Have you tried differeint DVDs? How about audio CDs?

If all else fails you can always call Sony. If it is a hardware malfunction, they'll replace your unit for free assuming it's still under warranty.

I haven't tried audio cds, I'll try that, I also haven't tried doing a system reset, that might fix the problem as well. I doubt it's still under warranty from Sony, but I do still have my extended warranty that I bought from the store I got it from, already used it once when that update fried my Blu Ray diode. Hopefully, if all else fails, I can just use it again.

Hmmm, could try that. Hold down power button when the PS3 is in stand-by until you hear the 3rd beeps. Menu will come up on screen, choose restore system files and see what happens. And like you said, if all else fails use the warranty while you still have it!
