Who says I turned out to be wrong? The WHO has the Pandemic Alert still at lv 5 (until it's adjusted accordingly to measure the SEVERITY along with the SPREAD of the virus rather than just SPREAD alone).

I didn't make this field my major so that I wouldn't have an idea of what's dangerous and what isn't. I've talked to plenty of doctors who believe the exact same thing. That's right. Look at his last "serious" post, he said the WHO and CDC would be testing faster "when there's dead bodies all over the streets" (fun fact: Are they using RT-PCR to test this? Yeah that's probably an overnighter, especially when you're trying to remove the potential of false positives/negatives etc.)

This kind of bullshit is the reason NYC hospitals are overworked, overstressed, and overcrowded. People are visiting the ER with *seasonal allergy symptoms* and clogging the system. He's got this idea in his head that the 1918 spanish flu (which took place during a historically unprecedented breeding ground for viruses...world war I) will happen all over again due to hypothetical mutations that thus far exist only in his head. All available data suggests this pandemic (if it reaches that level, and that's a very big if for a disease that is comparatively mild at this point) might *potentially* be as severe as Hong Kong flu.

The very OP was based on information that's since been found to be wrong. His "updates" are the latest mainstream media crap when there are better sources out there. My favorite was his suggestion that the developing world would get all the flu vaccine before the US did, yeah, I'm suuuure the gov't will drop 1.5 billion on the vaccine and give it away. The WHO has yet to make a decision because, why sacrifice production of seasonal flu vaccine when thus far this new flu hasn't been severely different? (We all know they will start production of the vaccine though)

Another fun fact: This pandemic alert almost never happened, in Mexico this flu strain was so similar to seasonal flu that they never tested for a new strain. It was almost a stroke of luck that they sent some samples to the CDC and they discovered it was a new strain. By then however, the disease had a chance to spread all over and the WHO never got their pandemic protocol in place to stop spread of the virus. If this was an extended seasonal flu, there wouldn't be any media response at all. There's a reason everyone worries alot more about avian flu rather than swine flu.

Put simply, there is no need to have a bumped thread for every death due to new swine flu. Especially when the OP lacks quality control in the information he presents. I'm convinced Vajra has taken this "debate" completely to his ego and would honestly be happy if everyone on the board got sick of swine flu.

You can't down play this like it's nothing, because it just hit 1 month since the virus has emerged onto American soil. Margaret Chan seems to be a very rational person. She's taking into account that the economy might be negatively effected by raising the Pandemic Alert level to 6. I'm sure they wont raise it til there are more severe cases (they're also planning on adjusting the whole Alert System soon). There are also cases now in Egypt where there were also recently cases of Avian Influenza this year (recently a surge in Avian Influenza too this year there).
