Egyptian girl 4, dies of bird flu virus
So basically, from April 1-Present, there has been 12 cases of Bird Flu(H5N1) in Egypt, which was more than all of the cases counted in 2008 period (with in Egypt). How interesting could this be then, a slight surge? Considering the fact that the girl didn't go to the hospital til 8 days after she began feeling ill, really means that there is the possibility of H5N1 incubating in people for more than a week...CAIRO, May 18 (Reuters) - A 4-year-old Egyptian girl has died after contracting the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus, bringing to 27 the death toll from the virus in the most populous Arab country, state news agency MENA said on Monday.
Egypt has been hit harder by bird flu than any other country outside Asia and has seen a surge of cases in recent weeks. Twelve new human infections have been reported since April 1-- more than the country saw in all of 2008.
The girl, from the Nile Delta province of Daqahlia, fell ill on May 9 and died after being admitted to hospital on Sunday May 17 suffering from a lung infection. She brings the total number of human cases of avian influenza in Egypt to 72, MENA said.
The avian flu virus rarely infects people, but experts say they fear it could mutate into a form that humans could easily pass to one another, sparking a pandemic that could kill millions.
Most of those infected had come into contact with infected domestic birds in a country where 5 million households raise poultry as a significant source of food and income.
Last month, Egypt ordered the culling of all the country's 300,000 to 400,000 pigs as a precaution against the new H1N1 influenza strain, also known as swine flu, The new virus has not been detected in Egypt so far.
Since 2003, the more deadly H5N1 bird flu virus has infected more than 400 people in 15 countries and killed more than 250. It has killed or forced the culling of more than 300 million birds in 61 countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe. (Writing by Cynthia Johnston; editing by Ralph Boulton)
Now if this girl were to come in contact with another human, they would not catch H5N1 (because it has not mutated into a form that could transmit between humans yet). If the other human has H1N1 and some how his germs come in contact with her, she'd incubate both viruses, and they'd manifest 3-7 days later and probably be a whole new virus entirely.
Swine flu is easier to transmit though if there's a crowd of people who are coughing and sneezing. Obviously those people coughing and sneezing would not be wearing masks to prevent the spread of their germs, but hey, I guess they're all the ones who think of Swine Flu as a "FUCKING JOKE."
H1N1 is very contagious (more than Seasonal Flu), but it is a mild virus.
H5N1 is not contagious (not transmissible between humans), but it is a SEVERE VIRUS(60% Morality Rate).
I know everyone's heard that they can merge and become a superbug and shit, but I doubt any of you knew that there was a recent surge in H5N1 (Bird Flu) which is from the above article I pasted:
Anyways lets pray that these don't merge. I'd rather have my Swine Flu become Tamiflu Resistant (merging with the Seasonal Flu of the Southern Hemisphere), than having a 60% morality rate (through a merging with H5N1 Avian Flu).Twelve new human infections have been reported since April 1-- more than the country saw in all of 2008.
Edit: Although I don't justify Egyptian's slaughtering 400,000 pigs, because they think they can catch the disease from healthy pigs in their nation that have had no contact with the Canadian or Mexican pigs, I can see what they're trying to say is that, they don't want the Swine Flu cases to manifest when they're dealing with the recent Avian Flu case surge in their country.
Egyptians already hate pigs because of their religion, so maybe they're just even more close to taboo to even be alive now. Just look at the Asians who killed the 30 million birds.
