OP- I like the idea of taking it to the media, but I'm sure they'd side with the school considering the swine flu frenzy they're constantly spouting now. Suing them is a waste of court costs.

The vast majority of the universe is filled with paranoid nincompoops, so their reaction is understandable, even if irrational. Not a lot to be done except know your limits from now on I think.
