It's most likely a trap, or Konami taking a page from Valve and trolling a little for the hell of it to stir up more user interest.

Regarding the 80gb comment, last I checked, MGS4 was 36gb some in size, which could be lowered a fair bit by re-encoding the ingame FMVs (yes, there were a couple, primarily those epicly long cutscenes that had no load-times inbetween sections where you couldn't use the zoom-in function on, and those ones where you start a new game), and it could easily be seperated into 8.7gb portions {dual-layered DVD} per Act, meaning at most, the game would be 5 DVDs per Act (a non-annoying section to swap discs on), and MGO could be on a seperate 6th disc, or that Konami could just exclude that portion of the content since Microsoft is anal about companies using their own servers/services to run their online titles anyway (and for good reason given Konami's dual password/account system needed for MGO -.- )

Anyhow, it can't be MGS5, too early, and if you ask me, I'm betting 5 has something to do with the game itself rather than it being a sequential game. Along the same lines of Left4Dead.

Where did you get 36? It was to large which is why you have to install each chapter. They had to compress it to fit on one 50gig disk.

It's 33gb actually, I was 3gb off. Was going to take a screenshot for myself, but I forgot how the heck to enter terminal from within a GUI (had resolution on my PS3's linux distro set to 1920x1200, but I've since hooked it up to my brother's 1080p HDTV since, and can't remember the bloody commands to change the video signal -.- ), but I found one over here : http://i32.tinypic.com/2b1574.jpg

    From Wiki:
Guns of the Patriots is the first PS3 game that uses a full 50GB dual layer Blu-ray Disc, even after extensive efforts in data compression.

not necessarily. the 360 has already has multi-disk games. dual layer disks + multi = mgs4 the movie

Movie which is still hard as fuck to complete all the extra content. Nothing like beating the game without raising mroe than a warning. Shit sucks! Most of the people I see that complain about game(s) never do all the trophys, or the extra content, then bitch about stuff like the game was too short lol.

While there are interactive cutscenes(recover stamina, hold R1), you don't actually interact with the "movie" portion. And the game portion(the whole thing is a game actually) is still a game.

It's still 17gb of free space that could have been used to alleviate installation times, I couldn't have seen why the maps could have just been streamed from the disc, and all character models and general sounds be installed just the one time to the harddrive.

But yeah, sorry, didn't think of the fact the installations could have just been large compressed files on the disc that the game had to dump to the PS3 to save on disc space to read from, but still, 17gb could have went a long way.

I'll take a few minutes of installation time over having to fondle with 2-3 disks, much less 5. I never got why proponents of Xbox always hailed that multi-disk was superior to installation times.

Yep, having to wait 5 minutes every time you want to play a different act is way better than taking 30 seconds to swap discs. Either way, the installations were as much to make you not have to sit through retarded load times thanks to the PS3's slow blu ray drive as they were to save space.

Well it was more like 2-3 minutes. More annoying was the fact you couldn't just install them all.

More annoying was the fact they had 14gb of fucking free space on the disc that they could have used to alleviate BD's slow seek time by doubling up on common data on the disc itself for the laser to access faster when in particular sections of the game.

Maybe it's just me, but I cannot stand multi-disk games. I have to get up, go to my book shelf, fetch the new disk, take the old one out, put the new one in, stick the case back on the shelf. I'd rather sit on my ass for 3 minutes and let it load. Not to mention I don't have to juggle multiple CDs and hope one out of the 4 doesn't get scratched. Maybe I'm just reminiscing too much from the old PS1 days.

I keep (well, kept, my room is all over the place since I moved) whatever I was playing by the console, so never really seen the problem with having to swap discs. It's not really intrusive on anything like FF7-9 and it wouldn't be on MGS4 either thanks to the positioning of the chapter changes. I'll agree on something like the new Star Ocean, where you have to swap discs every time you go to certain areas, being retarded.

Then again I don't think I ever actually stayed sat down when I had to wait for the installs on MGS4. I'd always just use the time for bathroom break, grabbing a drink or a snack and other random things since I'm impatient as hell. I can't even play Mass Effect without changing the channel and watching TV for a couple of minutes every time I get in a lift.

I'm starting to think the person complaining about the 'extra 17' doesn't get the concept of why they had to compress and why they couldn't add more. It's not like 100 programmers didn't notice a ton of extra space...cause in reality there isn't any.

As for extra disk or reload time. I don't mind extra disk as long as it means they have to add extra content to justify it. Otherwise I don't mind the installation time as well, like an intermission that gives me time to go to do something else real quick.

I always thought the 3-5 minutes between acts was nice.
IT reminded me to go use the restroom and relax my eyes from playing the game so much.
Plus I always needed to shit brix at the borderline epicness of the game itself.
