How the hell did I miss this thread?

Proof versus speculation. If the bible put the same effort into searching for proof as they did for brainwashing people they would have a little bit more cred imo.

Yeah Mini, Neil deGrasse Tyson pwned on the stupid design topic at the summit. I watch those on the Science channel.

I really dont think people who believe in god are idiots, I just think they are making really poor use of their brains on that specific topic.

However, I believe people that think we didnt evolve shouldnt be allowed to breed, as they make even religious people look bad.

Ug, my brain hurts when I think about that. You hear the textbook makers are trying to get something passed to prevent Texas from being able to determine what is in the text books, lol... I can't believe they won that shit. It was on the back of a big loss. My friends it Austin were pissed because I guess the one that sunk through was under the radar and intentionally so.

In Seattle, on the corner of 50th and University every Saturday around the time the weekend farmers market opens, there have been the devote there with their signs and pamphlets lately. A couple weeks ago I went down there for about 7 hours and debated them vigorously. It was actually pretty damn funny. They believe the literal truth of the bible. Holding up anti-gay signs and shirts, and insist the world is only 6000 years old, and that there was a world wide flood, and that evolution is completely untrue... It was the first time I've ever heard "Bible Numerics" used as a reason to justify the truth of the bible. I went back home and printed off page after page of points where the creator of the idea had outright falsified large portions of the pattern to keep the BS going. When I handed the guy who had brought it up the papers with the exact lines and what not he had this stark look on his face, like all the blood rushed out of his head. This was in the middle of a yelling match he was having with an elderly Asian man who made his view point on roadside evangelizing very clear when he spat at the guy, several times.

I was considering making up a bunch of pro-evolution signs and taking up a corner next to them. I've got a couple friends that say they would come out for that, lol. I was going to do atheism but it's easier to crush them with the clear evidence. I also want to address the whole "earth is 6000 years old" shit.

I cringe every time I hear someone use the term Darwinist or Darwinism. That has been long dead.

Loved that article, this too seems appropriate, considering media confusion of science.

Don't forget the 30 mil long boat made out of wood, assuming that 2 of every animal on the boat was 1 inch long! Oh and never mind that the average Elephant requires roughly 60 gallons of water a day! Ohhhhhh! Dont forget about the fact that there are nearly 1 million individual species of Insects that we know of, but yeah, what do we know right?

I love people that neatly ignore facts to fit their cute little fairy tales. To each his own, if having a giant wizard in the sky helps you feel safe in your home then so be it. You realize that all of us have to take that leap of faith right? Next time your granny is diagnosed with terminal cancer, instead of turning to science and opting for Chemo, have sister Jones' pastor pray for her and let's see she holds up. True believers are cured of all ills correct?

"Missing link" in human evolution, pretty stunning discovery.

The preservation is so good, it is possible to see the outline of its fur and even traces of its last meal.
Its in great condition too, hopefully it gets the attention it deserves from media.

I certainly hope so. One good thing about Science is it you constantly have people trying to debunk it, if it turns out its not what it is then they always admit mistakes. I respect that more than saying I'm going to hell because I merely questioned a religious point of view.

Some scientists are already dissecting the paper in great detail, it appears to be causing a bit of controversy given all the media hype and the fact that it has its own web page. It's an amazing fossil, yes, and certainly an important one given its anatomy and age, but there's a sense that the authors rushed to fast to publish (perhaps urged on by the history channel) and could have presented a better phylogenetic analysis and perhaps not gone crazy with the whole "missing link" presentation (there are no missing links in the tree of evolution). Another thing that the media constantly misses is that this fossil is interpretable only due to the mountains of fossils already accumulated that have roughly placed the branches of the primate tree of evolution in their places. While spectacular, this fossil is only part of the entire amazing story.
