I just began using triangles every chance I could and the game became easy. I got bored and just stopped after awhile. The game became especially easy after getting steel materials, which are longer.

Ya, I noticed that when I had to build multiple bridges. My first bridge would all of a sudden not be able to support the weight and I ended up having to rebuild it to fix. Weird.

I didn't think the game was easy; I thought it was fun. The impression that I did get, however, was that some of the support structures didn't seem based much off of true physics. I've taken a few courses on basic engineering (long time ago) and unless I'm getting the geometry wrong, a triangular arch should provide more support with a lattice-system than a single triangle. However, every time I tried this approach, the bridge snapped.
