When you want to catch a raccoon, one of the best ways to do it is to have a small cylinder with stiff rods angled down into cup, and something shiny at the bottom. The raccoon comes along, puts its little hand down into the cylinder because they love shiny things and they are caught by the rods when they try to pull their hand out. Because raccoons will never let go of the object (even though they could get out if they did), they are trapped and you can come along and do whatever you want with them the next day.

I always saw the spider rule as a raccoon trap for trolls. Seems I was right, it's incredible how it works so effectively even years later.
