Read Shakespeare and LOTR (before the movies came out) in middleschool and other associated classics that my stepfather turned me onto along with a lot of biographies and nonfiction about the Byzantine Empire (The Fall of Rome etc) and some mythology.

I was public schooled in Australia, we read all sorts of awesome books; lots of great English literature, Austen, Bronte, Shakespeare, Hardy, Dickens, some American stuff too, I loved To Kill a Mockingbird I'd mention all the Aussie fiction but you've probably never heard of anything
