    MNK SpellCast

    I finally broke down and installed Windower the other day. I never realized the awesomeness I was missing.

    I have been looking at SpellCast, slowly picking my way through XML. I think I have the basics down, but wanted to find out if anyone had some MNK XML they'd be willing to share. The two listed on the Windower site are ok, but they look a bit outdated.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated ^^

    I just converted a dancer one for use. I can post it when I get home if you still need it. It has parts for dancer/war/ninja sub.

    Omeed, that would be awesome! That is the type of thing I'm looking for.

    I have relatively little programming experience. I've been attempting to teach myself XML over the last couple of days thanks to Aikar's announcement of the new SpellCast. It's coming along, but slowly, haha.

    moarmnkxml go!

    you can do everything on mnk with SE's macros, maybe some windower equip macros if you're super anal

    SPELLCAST for MNK (please tell me someone else sees the irony)? is it that much faster to type /ja boost /ws asuran fists? I can't see how...

    I'm gonna have to raise the BS flag on that.. I've dealt with 6 lines of macros for years, and it has never been enough. Originally it was ok at best, but now it's just not enough. For one, let's look at a standard WS Macro for MNK... Want to boost, right? But you want that boost to be the most beneficial it can be, so macro in Temple Gloves, but you don't want to be stuck with that crap piece when your WS goes off, so you macro in O.Kotes or something, along with some other ACC pieces and such.. i'm now out of lines to do what I want.

    How bout an oshi set, a fast cast set for Utsusemi, maybe even a VIT set for Howling Fist? I really need something with more lines for the occasional Chi-Blast. And i'm tired of hitting macros when I want to rest.. To hell with that, i want it to do equip changes for me when I rest

    I'm being lazy somewhat, and want to have a centralized place for all my Monkly needs, especially with the addition of /dnc.

    So yea, lol MNK SpellCast if you're short sighted...

    Spellcast is actually quite handy on Mnk, if only to swap into Regen gear outside of battle and get back into TP gear while engaging. Seriously, that benefit alone is enough to write an xml for it. Then, it just proceeds to cut down on used macro space, and make using abilities from the menu viable. No reason not to use Spellcast for melee jobs.

    lol.

    Spellcast is fine with melee jobs. And if you're playing mnk to the fullest, it will benefit you a lot.

    Every melee should switch into full haste gear for Utsu, and while Mnk is already tping in their haste gear, many melee also choose to use Loq Earring.

    Using items such as Boxer's Mantle and Guard earring etc wouldn't hurt you for Ichi...just because something isn't needed doesn't mean it won't make you better.

    OP, if you want I could write one for you for your gear and wants/needs...I get bored and I have a lot of freetime, just PM me^^

    Hosom, thank you for the offer. I may take you up on that, but no laughing at my AH Gear, haha.

    I was thinking of setting up Spellcast for monk too, because switching to tp set automatically is fun and lots of other stuff it can do automatically for you. I just did not know how to handle the 10 inbteween cases in which I want to switch gear, but not per se always the same gear set for the exact same situation but different mob and since I had no idea how detailed I could make XML on rules, I just dropped the whole idea and stuck to my Windower macros, because yeah, fuck the 6 line bullshit.

    I'm upgrading from my P.O.S. 360 to PC soon, and will most likely be upgrading to SpellCast. In SpellCast, can you set a rule to equip certain sets based on what you are engaged to (ex. Colibri or Mamool or HNM)?

    Also, any one have a guide for XML programming with SpellCast or anything? Would love to pick-up something early for this if possible, thanks :D.

    Play mnk better. I swap out way more gear on just about any macro outside of macroing in AF for a JA.

    Chakra is almost every slot I have. Asuran, swap out plenty of gear there, eva swap, oshi swap, ect ect.

    Edit: Though, I'm personally happy with my combo of windower macros and Apnea's Macro Master myself . I haven't rly tried spellcast, but yea, lol at using regular macros.

    I never fucking understood this as a reason to use Spellcast... you do realise that you can simply equip the appropriate gear in the same macro as you'd press for casting Utsusemi, right?

    It was an example. I don't play mnk, mostly just pld, which I use spellcast for a lot...Utsu was the easiest example to come to mind. If you want a more specific example...I'll address that along with a question.

    First part...to answer both Drwaffles and Jutubyaa, yes this can be done, and it is quite useful.

    Would look something like...

    Code:
    <if target="*Chariot">
         <action type="equip" when="engaged|aftercast" set="tanking" />
    </if>
    (Example being tanking a Chariot as whatever job etc)

    That's really basic, but it basically shows what you're asking.

    Also, you can find out everything you need to know about spellcast here.

    So yes, while I gave a simple reason for using Spellcast, it worked. Honestly, once you learn it well it CAN be better than windower macros and ffxi macros no matter what you're using it for.

    For situational rules you can make it do different things based on:
    Time of day
    Weather
    Target name
    Current Zone
    Current HP
    Current MP
    Sub job
    Job Level
    Buff active (eg less ACC for your WS if you have rangers roll)
    Debuff active (eg more ACC for your WS if you are Blind)
    etc etc (see the spellcast site for more)

    You can also have sets with no rules against them.

    Eg I have a Magic damage taken down set for RDM soloing.

    You can't make it equip when some one cast a spell on you (spellcast wont do that)

    So I just have a macro:
    //sc set 'MagicDef'

    This will force the magic def set until you do another action (which in the case of the spell example, you aren't going to do much until it lands)

    The same works for an Ohshi macro too (but you could also set it up trigger this set on low HP)

    You can also set up different groups/rules dependant on the event you are doing. As your default TP set in salvage will be different to your merit or HNM set.

    That's the spellcast I wrote for MNK, admittedly simple, but it gets the job done for me. Damage reduction gear and such is macro'd in via windower macros.

    You don't "need" to swap that much gear IMO if your MNK is "good", and no I don't fucking use standard SE macros outside of simple tasks (ie: Temple Gloves > Boost> wait > boost >wait > boost, Tmple crown b4 focus etc...) Personally I like to keep MNK simple while still abiding by the rule of make the most of what you have. In the events I do, I don't need alot past my current TP/WS/JA macros to get the most outta my MNK. I solo/tank alot and aside from manually swapping in arhats when shit gets really bad (and tbh I rarely carry it), I rock an EVA set for most things, and it keeps me alive. Since MNK is one of the few jobs that rocks capped haste in 4 slots, I never saw the need for huge NI/Ichi macros, and I don't find it that hard to hit an EVA set macro during ichi cast (tho if I dont have blinks and I'm casting ichi, I'm expecting not to get it off)

    Anything that equips alot of gear (Chakra, WS) is made into a windower script macro, and I even append them into SE's dreaded 6 slots to make things easier on myself and not have to hit CTRL+1,2,3,4,5 everytime I want to WS.

    I guess playing on ps2 for over 3 years on MNK made me learn to use the least amount of lines nessesary to get the job done. I also never have had an oshit set/macro on MNK, seems kinda silly outside of salvage...

    yes I agree certain situations warrant specific gear swaps, and that SE doesn't provide us with the macro lines to accomodate this, but I really don't think that learning how to program XML to play a melee job is all that efficient

    OP: wasn't trying to be that big of a shark, but the concept of using something with spell in the name for mnk just made me balk, GL learning XML, fuck programming, thats what SE (software engineers) are for.

    My monk is only lv69, and I don't plan on leveling it much any time soon, but here is the xml I had been using.

    Yes, spellcast is a bit much for Monk, IMO, but for other jobs, it's quite helpful.

    That's the spellcast I wrote for MNK, admittedly simple, but it gets the job done for me. Damage reduction gear and such is macro'd in via windower macros.
    What's with your delay=".2" for precast equip? Couldn't you do it without the delay? I'm just making sure I'm doing it right. ^^

    Note, the Utsusemi cancel feature requires a windower plugin called "Cancel"...

    The "don't WS if you're more than 3.8 distance away" line is useful usually - but can be annoying on something like a big NM where you can melee it from further away than usual (to avoid being partially under it) and ESPECIALLY annoying on Battleclad Chariot.... I really need to get around to rewriting it... moving in to use a WS on BCC and getting bound is a bad mistake.

    Edit: Since we're asking for XML files, does anyone have one for COR? I'm level 53 COR, and haven't had a dire urgency to make one yet.
