I can't seem to smell strong scents, such as smelling a flower or a litter box, and have trouble picking up the smell of cowpies in a pasture or yeast at a brewery, or other strong ambient aromas. It's a mixed blessing. But it annoys my friends that I can't smell (or taste) the things they do.

But once in a while I might catch a faint waft of something that even my friends have trouble picking up. Usually its when I'm not even trying to smell anything, it just wafts by very faintly and I pick it up.

I have no known allergies, although I do blow my nose a lot and am perpetually stuffy. There's no difference indoors, outdoors, summer, winter, spring, summer, wet, dry, moldy, fresh, pollen/no pollen, whatever, it's always the same.

    Am I going to die?
How do you know you dont have allergies? Did you ever have a head injury? I messed around with this girl that got electrocuted when she was a kid, and she lost the ability to taste. She was hot, but she had bad breath. I always had to give her gum.

First question should have been: Do you smoke?

edit: Probably should see a ear, throat and nose doctor, my sister had a similar problem which was caused by polyps in her nasal cavity. After she stopped smoking it became much less of a problem.

I've had the same problem detecting scents for as long as I can remember. However, I do have allergies and asthma. If you have a perpetually stuffy nose, it could very well be due to a slight allergy. You can see an allergist about this, and if you're lucky you'll get to sit through some agonizing scratch tests!

The test is no big deal if you have no allergies, but, if you're like me, you'll leave the doctor's office with forearms resembling those of Popeye.

I always felt like I had a poor sense of smell too; however, since I broke my face in a wreck, (obviously nasal/septal fractures) I think it's improved. So break it all and get it rebuilt. I dunno, some people just suck at smelling--I think it's more often a blessing than a hindrance. The world smells; you should enjoy your smelling ineptitude.

I'm exactly like you and it never bothered me, since just like you food texture matters most and usually I still get a bit of flavor when I swallow.

Holy shit, Day haha. I have pugs and that video totally cracked me up.

Khamsin, you could just have a shitty sense of smell. Maybe bring it up at your next doctor's appointment.
