    PS3 hogs all the bandwith

Everytime I turn on my PS3 every computer's internet almost comes to a stop and it always kicks me off FFXI. I did some googling on the topic and saw that other people are having the same problem. I know I need to set a limit for the PS3 I just don't know where to do it at or what to set the limit too. Help me out.

The PS3 shouldn't be taking that much bandwidth really, unless it's continuing some downloads that are in the queue. Even so, that shouldn't be kicking you off FFXI.

Does it only d/c the internet when you first sign-in? Or the the internet stay like that as you're connected with PS3? I'm guessing it's d/c'ing the internet when you first turn it on from what it sounds like. Try disabling media sharing on the PS3 and/or disabling uPnP on the router config. That problem seems to be most common with linksys routers.

Some buddies of mine run LAN parties with XI all the time on 360 and they'll have a dozen or more people in his place all playing and the moment someone hops on a PS3 it kills EVERYONE'S connection.

I used to have some nasty problems with my PS3 and my Linksys router which ultimately ended with me buying a new router and I haven't had a single problem since.

Yeah, I never had any luck with Linksys routers except one, but I had dd-wrt installed on that one, lol. Now I have a netgear router, no problems so far.

Same as these other guys, never had a problem. But I gave up wireless a long time ago, and strictly use wired connections now. You might be able to play around in the system connection settings on the PS3, or the router, but other than that, maybe try a new router to see if it works better.

Try disabling uPnP support on your PS3.

Yeah, turning off upnp should solve your problem; but the router is the place to be shutting it off, not the ps3.

Where do you go to turn this off? I have the same exact problem as the OP.

In Network settings, while you're setting up your connection type (wired/wireless). The last option is to use uPnP or not.
