    Ugh

They've been building an addition to the Academic Health Sciences building at the University of Saskatchewan where I work and they've been drilling or knocking the fuck out of shit or something. Today they were doing it behind plywood walls right outside the lab. Holy shit, my head is all fucked up from it. I couldn't talk to people next to me and the floor was vibrating. Sore ears, sore head. I'm just glad it didn't fuck my experiment.

If I stayed there one more moment, I'd probably still have a headache tomorrow. Fuck. Time for a nap.

What is your experiment and is it cutting edge science sure to revolutionize the world?

I've got 5 blue dollars of monoploy money that says his science experiment wasn't a house of cards or liquid nitrogen

I think he built a model volcano using vinegar and baking soda. Cutting edge bitches.

In this particular experiment, I was seeing examining a combination of whether copper bound to the C1 isoform of myelin basic protein and whether it affected the event profile generated by the protein. The stuff I'm doing as a summer student at the moment is just a combination proof of principle work and general survey of different proteins using the cutting edge proteomics technique we use in the laboratory. Nothing I'm doing has any huge implications, but there's grad students doing prion work in the laboratory. The goal is to produce a method for testing whether live animals are infected with the misfolded form of the prion protein which would save a large amount of money in the livestock industry at the very least. There's also important implications for studying other diseases of misfolding such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

Our proteomics technique consists of placing proteins into a model volcano using vinegar and baking soda.

I did that for my third grade science fair. Came in third place too, FUCK YOU EDISON.

    Spoiler: show
the more subtle joke here is that normally you come in second and then get mad at first place but in this example I came third so you are thinking was edison first or did edison come second and there is a mystery science fair god, it's a big mystery to go along with how old am I if i competed against edison

You're mean for reminding me that I have one more year until graduate school.
I'm pretty embarrassed to admit that I do sort of talk like this when science is involved.

Generic nerdy science joke about dick being too big to go through the hole that the protein passes through in the experiment.

Do you use whey protein in your experiments or the protein bars.

I thought all statements explaining what your experiment is trying to prove was a thesis

I didn't mean YOUR THESIS, I just meant your thesis

To be completely honest, we don't really ever write down that much until the final report which I won't actually be involved in writing. It's mostly just different specifications and some observations.
