The real problem should be worded as a problem of limits, or even series.
Where as x = 1-1/lim(x) as x -> infinity.

In which case the original equaiton of 10x = 9.9999 doesnt work.

You can debunk it by saying x = .99 with no repeaters, and see it break down:
x = .99
10x = 9.9
10x -x = 9.9 - .99
9x = 8.91
