Damn late on this thread.

No I don't give money out to them if they ask/just sit there. The ones I've seen all look able.

I give out to performers though, i.e. music ones/singing and more if it's more unique (what do you call them live statues? I always admired them), live statues/animal shows, etc, they're the cool ones.

And although I've always avoided them, I find "The Big Issue" sellers are always polite and friendly, but I've never brought off them before (legit homeless/poor people working by standing at popular/busy spots selling "The Big issue" magazine, which is basically written by the same people).

Now that I've got more time, I can say this.

Years back I lived in Florida with my Aunt and Uncle. I can't stand my Aunt but I was only planning on being there temporary until I could find a place of my own. After about a week or two I walked in on my Aunt going through my shit and called her on it so she kicked me out.

In all honesty it wasn't to horrible to be homeless in Florida. It was warm as hell in the dead of winter and there was a shower on the beach. Only problem is, I guess the area I lived in had male prostates and I could sit and tell you multiple stories of guys pulling up to me in the dead of night, trying to pick me up.

I gave a hungry homeless guy that wanted money for food $10 once. I was by a wendys. Instead of going to get something to eat, he walked up to the next car and got more money. I came back around to finish some errands and saw him still getting money. I don't give out money at all to begging hobos. If you want my money, work for it. At least wash my windshield or some shit.

a few summers ago, in Toronto, we had a big issue with "squeegee kids", waiting by major intersections, offering to clean your windshield for change while you waited for the red

it was strange at first and only really grew into a concern when there were too many of them and when some ultimately got aggressive and would make a mess of your windshield if you didn't give


the messed up part is peopl would give like 1-5 dollars and these kids would make $120-180 cash in 8 hours easily, this when the minimum wage was $7-8/hr

Gave a homeless guy with his kid €2 once and 2 mins later I see them stepping into a Ferrari(not lying, never saw a ferrari before but these guys had one) and took off.

Obviously all homeless people are actually rich. Anecdotes are the rule. They like being dirty and smelly, and shunned by 99% of the people they encounter every day. It's all a front for their plan to steal money from unsuspecting passerby.

Fuck that, if you push your wares/services on me to make money you automatically get nothing. The ones who come up and just start washing the windshield without asking or shove their hand crafted necklaces in your face are the the most irritating of the lot in my opinion.

I was in Boston once with my kids (they're five years old) when a white guy asked me for money. I told him I don't have any cash on me -- which I don't, I don't carry money on me. He got pissed and said I sounded like a retard and started following me. I started to panic because I had my kids with me. Some random guy who heard this, told the guy he sounded like a retard and some argument ensued. The homeless guy started backing off, but was still shouting threats the random guy. The random pulled out his pepper spray. It was really scarey;;

Homeless people are very strange. A couple years ago my mom and I were standing outside of Gameworks in downtown Seattle.. We watched a guy pull a half eaten bag of tortilla chips out of the garbage, then proceed to ask everyone he saw if they had any salsa.

I have seen some homeless people in their 20s. They look rugged and like nomads passing through the city going somewhere. They look as if they are homeless by choice. They look similar to people in the pics below

Every fucking day, on car 2 on track 1 on the S train between Grand Central and Times Square, there is a panhandler. It's fucking annoying.

There's an MTA employee fucking standing right there too. Kick that fucker off the train please.

I take the shuttle twice a day and never really see anyone begging there outside of the dude with the cart who claims to be giving out socks, soap, food, etc, and one of the guys selling the homeless newspaper thing. Although I haven't actually seen either in a few months now that I think about it.

Being a smoker I probably get asked for cigarettes about 8-10 times a day. The worst are the motherfuckers who wave and jump around like they're about to piss their pants to get your attention as you try to pretend you can't hear them because of the headphones. They all get so angry when I say "No." as they just glance at me. Then they ask anyway.

Yeah those grimy 20somethings by and large have homes to go to. Spend 2 hours in western Seattle, northern San Francisco or west Hollywood to find them. They beg for food, money, etc even when they're perfectly capable of working.

That's the guy. Car 2 is the middle car. There's the one that sells newspapers, the one that's asking for socks, soap, food, and there's a woman that goes on there from time to time talking about hard times and how she lost her job and has kids etc. etc.

The newspaper guy has been there every day this week actually.

Ever seen the old asian homeless lady that usually sat between the passageway between the A,C,E line and 1,2,3 line on 42nd?

I always felt so bad passing her because she'd just sit there huddled there with a cup in front of her looking sorta emotionless. Not bad enough to spare change but pretty sad.

We don't have too many homeless people around where I live (or at least you don't see many of them). Most of the of the ones that I see stand on the lights that take you into or out of the Walmart parking lot. I swear they all hold the same sign that says "Homeless anything helps, God bless".

I work at a grocery store and occasionally we will have a couple drifters come sit outside our doors. They are usually in groups of two or three and for every person there is at least one dog, and always a little puppy. They ask our customers for cash so they can buy dog food. Pretty smart. I think people are more willing to give money for the animals sake then for another persons.

Anyways, I'm always the one my boss chooses to tell them to gtfo., and they are always super nice about leaving. "Yea no problem man, just wanted to get out of the sun for a little bit, you know?" It makes me feel like an asshole.
