That maybe so but there are too many stupid drivers to show leniency towards these kinds of things. If a 400$ fine is what it takes for someone to be a little bit more cautious and aware on the road, then so be it. Better that than a lapse in judgement that costs someone their life.

Unfortunately, according to a lot of studies, red light cameras do not seem to have a large enough effect on traffic accidents for there to be a solid consensus that they do work. Even though they've been used in some cities for several years now.

I'm for longer yellow lights personally.

    ITT: Type A drivers.

Get over your bawwing. You see, here's the thing about fines and tickets. You get fined up the ass, what do you do in the future? Do you commit the same violation or try to drive safer (definition varies)? I got caught speeding through a work zone on a highway (when there was no work, but it is still considered a work zone). I would have been slapped with a 400 dollar fine plus another 175 for excessive speeding. I got out of it because of silly on-lookers making an accident, but the moral of the story was that I never sped in a work zone ever again.

Whether people decide to change their driving behaviors in the future depends on their attitude. It all boils down to Darwinism.

(Edit: When I went to Mexico, their green lights would start flashing for 2 seconds before the yellow turned. That is far better imo than having to decide if you are going to gun it or slam on the brakes - Off topic sorry).

When I lived in WI, I worked at an insurance company that worked with driving schools to set up cameras in the car of a student driver. They monitored things like speed, obviously, but they also registered how often a kid's eyes were looking somewhere other than the road or one of their mirrors. Kids that did well in this program were eligible for breaks on their insurance as an incentive for participating and doing well. Surprise surprise, in a recent census of the nation's drivers WI finished in the top 3 for having the best drivers. Now I'm back to RI aka. #46, and everyone drives like total assholes.

Just go to the dealership and grab one of those cardboard cutout license plates saying "From blank dealership" you'll have a higher chance to get pulled over for a fix-it ticket but hey better than paying for those red light fines!

Better yet keep your real license plates in your trunk and when you do get that fix it ticket put your real ones on, pay the fix it ticket, once it's payed back to the cardboard.

$25 fix it ticket > $400 red light violation with a ding to your record I believe.

Or, with the energy you'd otherwise spend screwing and unscrewing your license plates on and off, push the foot down on the brake when you reach a red light.

Obeying traffic lawz is hard guyz.

Funny you guys should mention about the tickets helping the local economy considering in most states the cameras are privatized and the City/town sees only a percentage of the actual fine.

    .....................

Driving without tags is a arrestable offense in some states lol

    *edit*

Unless your talking about front plates only, but i'm sure the camera's record the rear end of your car as well if you run a light.

[RANT]If you hate these fucking cameras as much as I do, don't ever come to Phoenix. Pretty sure this retarded camera trend started in Scottsdale a few years ago, but last year was just ridiculous in the amount of mobile cameras on the roads. Thankfully I haven't gotten caught yet (honestly it seems like a crapshoot) but in '08 my dad got 4 total, 2 in December alone.

They used to post up the mobile cameras-the ones mounted on police SUVs-in places obviously meant to trap people, like where the speed on the freeway changes for no reason, construction zones w/no construction going on, etc. but by the grace of God they now have a warning sign a few hundred yards before the camera so you know when to hit the brakes. IMO it makes driving less safe with the constant speeding up/slowing down to avoid getting snapped, and also the flash is bright as fuck. One night I got blinded for a second when someone behind me got caught, I can see the flash causing an accident in the future. Kinda sucks but I hope this happens so the victim can sue and get these piece of shit robocops off the roads.[/RANT]

Wow, those are legal? Pretty cool if they work. Makes it so you can easily make up your money in tolls if you just fly through the EZ Pass lanes.

This, and turning into the wrong lane are the 2 things that irritate me the most.

I mean, I know you're going to have a rough day without those 3 extra calories you'll burn by pressing the brakes a tiny bit harder and turning the wheel a little bit farther, but gdi you're a fucking American, you'll be fine.

You don't need to stick your damn nose halfway into my lane so I have to swerve over to avoid your dumb ass, and you don't need to save yourself 1/2 a second by taking the corner faster and in turn costing us all time by making right turns on red when the opposite direction is turning left a complete non-option because fuckheads don't know how to drive.

When I lived in Stockton, CA (hella high crime rate city) the bf and I went to jack in the box at like 3am. There was no traffic, so when my bf made a right turn on red he didn't come to a complete stop. We saw a bright flash and was like WTF

He got the ticket in the mail a little after that. So fucking stupid.

My brother told me the automated tickets weren't through the police department, but a private company. Essentially they were "fake" tickets that you don't have to pay, but they were ok with the city because it encouraged better driving. He just rips them up and hasn't seen any repercussions yet. Is that true or is he just retarded?
