You do realize that every 10mph difference between you and a potential impact target doubles not only the distance required to stop safely but the risk of injury or death?

And yet you talk about 10+mph over like it's perfectly reasonable...

Note to self: stay off AZ roads

And yet you still have old people driving legally going 50mph on the interstate where the limit is 75mph...

Yea, that argument doesn't catch much validity for me as long as there's a 20+mph difference between the legal minimum and maximum. The safest speed is the average speed of all traffic, whether it is 5 under, at, or 5 over speed limit.

Who said anything about old people driving slow? They're a hazard too, I'm not denying that.

NTSB says the average speed on most roads is usually 5mph over the posted limits. AVERAGE, so there's clearly an array of people going way too fucking fast and people actually driving sanely and even some driving what's probably too slow. Catching the ones who are going too fast removes a greater portion of the risk due to exponential growth (risk doubles every 10mph, remember).

Too many variables to claim going 10 over doubles the required stopping time..... all depends on reaction, car weight, braking system (rolling some brembo brakes maybe? lol)

I understand what your saying, just playing devils advocate I guess.

Always though that "stopping distance" argument was kinda useless--like we need to know how far back you need to be to stop from 70mph in the rare case that the car in front of you suddenly metamorphs into a stationary brick wall.

That semi isn't a stationary brick wall either though. It would slow the truck down, not stop it dead in it's tracks.

It's going to be slowing down a lot faster than you're hitting your brakes, though at that point it's more an issue of follow distance than speed.

The point is, reaction time is more often than not severely misjudged by those who think they're safe going at high speeds.

A semi that is sliding moves a hell of a lot faster than a stationary brick wall.

mythbusters already debunked this. several types of plate covers have been tested repeatedly at different angles. you cant beat the camera unless you got a rocket car moving past 200mph lol.

and if you really want to beat the redlight camera. shave your head or give yourself a complete make over. ticket cant apply to "you" if it wasnt "you" driving the car. since tickets are made out to the driver and not the car & owner. as long as you can prove its not you in that photo. was something a friend of mine tried, but i don't remember the outcome. i'm pretty sure he got away with it though
