Idling in full DD gear (since shadows), eating sushi and Atonement ftw. Worked great on Omega!

Who is it feed? Can have some lessons.
The only thing that hasn't been mentioned is the importance of a decent idle HP, and getting HP totals nominally equal or above your idle set between gear swaps so as not to lose max HP. I don't bother with an acc ring in place of BQ or cerb mantle in place of gigant for that reason. HP with a good shield swap vastly improves your oh-shit-my-blinks are down survivability, and reduces the CE lost from taking damage, and there are plenty of magical singles and AoEs that kill blinks. For example, on Ultima, I idle in roughly 1700 with carbonara, which comes in handy with antimatters hitting people for 800.
Make sure they don't become over-dependant on atonement. As useful as the weaponskill is, it only makes a shitty and helpless paladin look like a good one.
what mobs exactly are you guys having trouble with? just curious.
Unless it's Ixion, or Khimaira: Your first atonement should be greater than 450+
It's not hard to hit 720 at all, assuming you utilize cure spammage, and JA combinations...
But my point was, that if you took away the weaponskill, half of these new age paladins would be helpless. As funny as it sounds, I still know some paladins that don't have the weapon skill(lol). Though they are a tad slow with reaching the hate cap, they still do great as the fight picks up.
Because they know the ins and outs of enmity and their job.
It's just hilarious that your NINs hold hate where PLDs can't, but yah all suggestion are pretty much covered.
As for the guy who said Provoke is worthless...voke is the best hate tool in existance. War just isn't superior any more compared to Nin.
Don't forget to max your +Enm for any hate generating action (aside from Flash, which you want to get the lowest recast timer first, then full Enm as you can).
It feels absurb to pop a WS in +Enm gear, but getting +35~40 Enm on a 400 Dmg WS vs +4~10 Enm on a 400 Dmg WS is a big difference.
548 Base CE for a 400 Dmg Atonement vs a lvl 85 Target.
569 CE for +4 Enm
739 CE for +35 Enm
Also if you can get a good high Enm C3 cheat, but have to compromise on your +Enm in a C4 macro, Kanican - Enmity Table (Curing).
If you can do 193 Hp in +37 Enm, or 390 Hp in +20 Enm, check where you're using them.
193 HP at +37 Enm
192 CE/1152 VE
4.19 CE/MP
390 HP at +20 Enm
339 CE/2034 VE
3.85 CE/MP
Kanican - Enmity Table (PLD)
Read it, understand it, learn it, love it, preach it.
Hey, I don't have it yet (lol i know), limited playtime my last year in college + aggressive salvage static, just now have time to squeeze in 2 Nyzuls a week.
Yeah I feel like a giant gimp without it, but like you said, it's not hard to hit the VE cap and build up CE without Atonement, I've never had a single problem juggling with my Atonement-spamming co-tanks.
(I even parsed 14% total damage in a recent Ultima, with freaking spirits withins)
its not specific mobs, its more general. currently we do sky, sea, dynamis, limbus, and all the random force pop stuff like BQR and ZNM.
thank you guys for all the info, a lot of this feels like stuff that has been said before but hopefully coming from several other PLD and seeing all the differant gear options will help. 8-)
