Yup.
Edit: Still waiting to find out if you realize what donations really mean, though.
Here's where your donation went, used to build a christian megachurch in TX. It's basically a stadium.

I can walk into any Christian church for any service and stay the entire time without paying a cent.
I cannot be audited or participate in any scientology course without paying up front.
Therein lies the difference.
Scientology does not accept donations, they force donations. That defeats the purpose of it being a donation.
*edit* and fuck me if you're getting hung up on the beliefs issue.
It's not a question of what soandso believes. It's a question of a business marketing itself as a self-help alternative to Psychology only it ends up being a bait-and-switch organization that can call itself a religion because it shares nothing more than the same tax exempt status that other organized religions enjoy.
Scientology is a scam that preys on the weak minded, alienates its members from friends and family, and forces them to believe that paying money is the only way to make themselves healthy.
You seem to have a hard time reading as well.
There's the fact I was also asking for information, not dipshit remarks like that. Not to mention I was asking about what made them a profitable organization and the differences in how they obtain the money while commenting on how other religions spend their donations and manipulate the populace.
Do I need to outline that more clearly for you? Or do I need to break it down into smaller words?
And yeah, I see what your point is about the differences in the donations vs how they collect funds. I think it was the way you said they were "forced," to pay that kind of threw me off (since no one is forced to join to begin with). It makes sense though given the explanation of how their hierarchy works as far as payments = status.
We clearly got sidetracked, but the problem with them not being labeled as a profitable business is because they don't report earnings to my understanding. So, up front, they aren't making profit. If they were forced to reveal where their money goes (which is pretty obvious when you look at the higher ups and their several houses, body guards, cars, etc), then they can be deemed a profitable organization.
Edit: With the way their church is labeled, I don't think they have to report their "donations" or whatever you want to call it.
Like I said, there's a great documentary from the BBC network out there. I'll go find it. Was posted here on BG a long time ago.
Found one. Think there might be a couple others.
John Sweeny, BBC
Yeah, that's what I'm fuzzy on. Churches of other religions pay salaries as well. I'm wondering at what point it becomes profitable.
Is there a set amount for positions in which a person can be paid before it becomes profitable? Or is it considered profitable if the money is spent on certain items/activities? Or is it simply a case by case bases?
Stuff like that.
Saying "I don't know about this but.." and then ending with retarded comments like "so what all religions are like this" is not a good way to get information fyi.
you should watch the for parts videos in my link to see the way scientologists act:
YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
Is your reading comprehension really that poor? I guess I did need to simplify it.
Amazingly enough, I did get that information too. You were the only person that felt the need to jump in and make some shitstick comment.
That was purely in reference to what their money is spent on that would deem them as a profitable organization.
I didn't say "so what all religions are like this." First off, my grammar isn't that poor. It's not perfect, but I don't talk like I'm fresh out of 6th grade either. Secondly, I was referring to other aspects of the religions as far as manipulating people for their own means as well when I was making comparisons.
Anything else I need to clarify for you? Or are you confused by my 25 cent words again?
Have any information to bless us with about the differences between a profitable and a non-profit organization since you seem to have spent so much time researching the issue?
I really would like someone to shine some light on that subject. So far I haven't found anything too specific about it.
You had an attitude with me. I was returning the favor. Pot, kettle, that whole thing.
By your quotes, no, you obviously didn't understand me.
I do appreciate the You Tube Link though. It's been interesting so far.
And that's what I'm asking about right now too. Is being a profitable or non-profit organization based on the amount used for salaries? Perhaps a percentage based allowance depending on the revenue the entity earns? It sounds like that's what you're saying there.
That's one of the things that I was stating was the same as many other religions. Churches of other religions pay higher ups as well, yet they're still deemed non-profit. I was wondering what the difference is.
Dumbest argument ever. Took this long to make a guy understand the difference between withholding integral parts of a religion for donations, and donations with no strings attached.
Can we have this guy banned now? I foresee him being a new hindrance. I think we have enough with leif and the flu idiot.
New? I've been here for a long time bro.
I actually put things into my post that are relevant to the topic as well, instead of just asking for someone to be banned because my reading comprehension fails and I was called out on it.
I usually don't get much of an attitude like that either, but I don't shy away when someone else does.
So what wisdom do you have on the subject?
That it?
I think i understand how you work. Stay right here, i'm going to go figure out 20 ways to say that scientology is a cult and call that wisdom. My ability to argue in mindless circles also is a bit rusty, so you'll at least have to give me a few weeks so we can, together, make thousands upon thousands of inane posts. Though i'm quite sure i won't be able to imitate your inability to comprehend the intent behind sarcasm.
By the way, welcome to general, you should probably stop posting now.
I understand hating scientology is cool and all, but his argument is not pro scientology, its anti religion. While yes there are definitely distinctions to be made, you can not argue that his argument is baseless. I was raised in a conservative christian home, and we were certainly not taught tithing was a "donation". You give X% of your weekly net pay to the church or you go to hell. I am not going to argue that no differences exist between the way Scientology collects funds and the way its done by traditional religions, however you can not possibly argue no parallels exist. $10k raises you a level in one, $50k makes you an elder in another I don't really understand why you're all getting so bent out of shape about his argument. He makes some valid points, even if he is a Galka.
Ha!
Yeah, you do know how I work. I get bored man. I like debating more so than arguing, but going back and forth with people offers some amusement regardless of which it is. After all, most people are idiots, and idiots offer an endless supply of entertainment, particularly on the internet.
Oh. And you occasionally get some really useful information out of it.
:D
Edit: wtf. Being Galka is the only reason any of my points are valid.
Aye. Not religion itself though as I do have my own spiritual beliefs. It's organized religions and the mass hypocrisy that goes hand in hand with them.
From what I've found so far, it's basically Scientology vs religious traditionalist. Both slandering each other at every opportunity. Both using lies, deception, and manipulation to validate their points. Both screaming foul.
It's just a few more reasons why I can't stand organized religions.
