Hmm.. unexpected dual monitor prob

Went to give HL2 Ep2 a spin yesterday.. it tried to load but ended up flashing different screen sizes across my monitors (a 22" and a 19" running different resolutions) before finally crashing out. I tried loading Portal and TF2 and it did the same thing.. WAR & FFXI (of course) work fine, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

maybe the res, I remember loading up Stalker for the first time it said the res was too high or whatnot, then flashed and crashed

Check your settings in steam so that it's loading up with refresh rates and resolution sizes to match your monitor. If it's trying to display in a mode that your monitor doesn't support, it would explain the crashing.

Hmm.. I wonder if I'll need to set my larger screen to the smaller one's rez to get it to work. I figured it would just automatically use my primary display instead of trying to sync both up..

do you have it set to dualview or horizontal spand? if it's horizontal spand both monitors should be the same resolution or it can cause conflicts. Most dual monitor set ups will want dualview. Games will only run on one monitor in dualview as well.

I have a similar problem with my dual screen setup on TF2. If I close Skype and only Skype, then it works fine for me.
