To BLM, with or without spellcast. But more with spellcast.

I have a question on how you would setup macros, more for people who use spellcast.

First I want to point out or ask, people who play BLM (not garbage BLM), do you have a full damage nuking set( full INT, MAB etc) and a "macc" set where you use full skill etc vs damage or do you just have one set or something else?

I don't use BLM much but I want to fix up spellcast for it and not sure if I do need the 2 nuking sets and if I do, how would I implement that into the spellcast? Right now I have 2 macros that equip either max dmg vs macc set then my individual nukes just equip proper staff.

I hate spellcast, but ive a damage and resist set.
Ctrl line 1 is damage, 2 is resist, 3 is uggy, 4-9 are T4s and 0 is MB set.

So if I wanted a full damage thunder, id press 1 then 4, and if I was under 50%mp, id hit 3, and if it was a MB, id also hit 0. So 4, 1, 3, 0, if it was a tough mob id hit 2 instead of 1.

1 and 2 do full gear swaps, 3 just adds uggy, 0 adds hands and ear, and 4-9 add staff and cast spell.

Inside each nuke macro is a line for obi and pants if it's the correct day. I have it as //equip etc, and if its ice day I go under 5 and just take a / out so it works. Not that much effort.

My best suggestion would be to look at some of the BLM templates over on the spellcast page. Aikar's has a Full DMG, Mid and High resist set, but personally I just have a Full DMG, and a Full Skill equip set as far as nukes.

Your questions make it seem like you aren't to familiar with how spellcast works so here's how it goes: You make your diff sets of gear, Skill;Nuke;hMP;Dark, etc... Your staff is automatically handled based on the spell you cast. Once you have it setup you literally just cast the spell and the rest is handled for you.

For real though, just take a look at Aikar's BLM template and it pretty much answers all your questions.

I'm by far not a perfect BLM and I do not use spell cast. I basically just use windower macros for full gearswaps. My sets are HP Down, Enfeebling, Elemental, hMP, Idle/Damage Down, Dark. My Elemental and Enfeebling swap everything but the staff which I do with the in game macros.

    Aikar's BLM spellcast is perfect.

Autoswitches for Uggy Pendant and Sorc ring and damage and resist gear based on what mob you fighting.

I.E Equipping elemental gear when your nuking tiamat etc

You're doing a lot of extra work seph. I'm sure it works for you, I know you're a long time BLM, but spellcast can do all that weather/day check, Uggy equip based on MP, and resist set based on mob name, etc...

I set spellcast with a full damage equip, then I have 3 macros adding different amounts of M.acc/Ele skill (the "full skilL" one overriding uglypendant with ele torque too).
This said, I don't have nukes macroed in the standard palettes, save for a /raw thunder 3; G15 or pick from magic menu for all the other nukes.
Since nukes have a fairly long casting time I like to not automate too much :D

Yeah, im too bounded by my old ways, but also dont like things fully automated, I just like knowing my macro mashing is correctly equiping my stuff

I tried using it briefly, but just didnt like the feel of it.

Understood, that's kind of what I figured. It took me a while to get used to it, and sometimes lag keeps everything from equipping right, but most of the time it works great. I'm very lazy so I love it. Not having to worry about Obis, Uggy, and Sorc proc set make it a godsend to me.

No I do know how spellcast works but I didn't know how people were doing the skill set vs dmg set nukes without having 2 macros. So Aikar does it with the mob's name to decide which set to use? But what about if you MB on that mob and you have the 2af hands etc...

Well with MB you'd just have an MB set, and macro to equip that set that you would hit after the normal spellcast processing, or you could just manually swap the gloves. There's no way for the game to check that you're attempting an MB so that one has to be done manually.

SC 2.3 is adding include support - the next logical step is easy to use prepackaged groupings of mobs akin to what Aikar does for high level HNMs. I've already started to make up a set of Undead mobs for WHM AF2 hands to Banish in.

From there out, it should be possible to basically take all the info you'd get from InfoBar and make specific BLM (or in my case, SCH) cases for them to go all out on Mob A but more skill on Mob B. And of course, any post-set gear swaps (Uggy/Sorc. ring/etc) will fire because all the name choice did was swap to a default set.

I think the quickest way to have SC handle magic bursts is to toggle a variable right before you cast your MB spell. Either by making your own macro for just that (variable toggle->spell) or a macro just to toggle it on/off. No one really MBs anymore, so thankfully this is a small annoyance.

Not true He doesn't have stoneskin in there! and I've been trying to figure out how to put it in and make it not immediately flip back to idle xP

There are other imperfections (I feel so bad saying that because after 2 days of spellcast, i love it) that I made a list of to look into whenever I figure this out (upgraded to notepad++ to be able to locate my errors easier)

To the OP~ For my blm, I use Aikar's XML to default to latent nukes with full damage, but I've maintained my latent -enmity nuke (and a variant of it that just swaps sorc. petasos for wyrms and the like), and a weakened hp (non-latent lol) -enmity nuke macro. SpellCast wont take into account mob HP and player actions that make me choose which macro I'll use (-enmity or full damage), so I keep them around.

I guess I can rid myself of some of my redundant macros now, tonban/obi macros arent useful to me now~ I only use tonban and obi for full damage nukes, and spellcast does that for me. The ugg macro will have to stay for when i want to do a latent -enmity nuke that will put me into ugg latent (since I dont use a -enmity neck )

xml is hard I have a lot to read before I can make pretty things myself :D

I thought he had a stoneskin set? I couldn't ever get the Staff to work right if I already had stoneskin up though, so I ended up doing a /wait 1 /equip Main Kirin's Pole in my standard macro.

all he has is the lines for cancelling stoneskin lol

i have my scholar one up and running (and amazing for the most part) and my blm stoneskin macro thing seems to be set up right, but I think another part of the xml is messing with it and resetting to idle immediately after casting starts

Hmm, well I must have made the set and created the rule and such. Yojo noticed one day my staff wasn't always swapping and he let me know he added the /equip etc.. to actual macro to fix it because he had the same problem. I even have the lock=yes shit, idk why it won't work.

But yeah other than SS set, Aikar's is a pretty good template to work from, it will at least get you started and let you see how everything is working.

and with that, i just added stoneskin to his xml (probably in a very ugly way, but it is effective :D) success! Had to put the stoneskin below his last spellelementstaff to stop that from freezing the stoneskin swaps

list of things still to do:
-have autoexec? check for sublimation and put on appropriate gear for idle (sublimation+ for active loading of sublimation, or refresh+ for both charged subl and without subl)--currently defaulting to +sublimation always, and forcing the check with kaeko's "snippet" (is that what they call these things? ) for checking sublimation
-fix scholar's loafers occasionally staying in nuke set (i think this just might be a limitation on how fast you can cast a following spell with idle gear swapping in behind the current spell)
-create/modify whm, smn, and blu macros
    -find/fix errors :D

Hmm you may be right, let me look where my SS stuff is, it only makes sense that I have it before the staff swaps now that you say that.

    Thanks I'm an idiot.

Is there a "Spellcast for Idiots" guide somewhere, one that assumes you don't have any programming experience? I stopped doing programming in 1994 and capped at bad geocities html webpages.

Theres kinda one on the windower forums. All you really need to do is open a template in notepad and just look at it for a bit. Then look over the basics on the spellcast forums. You'll have to do a little reading but it's not as hard as it looks at first glance.
