FFXI for PS3 (not yet ; ; )

That's most likely how they'll do that seeing how 360 games get ported to PS3 often.

I don't see exactly why it's so hard to just drop the PS2 support, its 2008 by now I'd be actually surprised if someone didn't have a PC in their house with internet that wouldn't be able to run this game.

I don't want PS2 support dropped because the game performs better on it than it does on my PC. I have a PC that is more than good enough compared to the system specs, but unless I use a graphics card driver from 2005 instead of the current one, I get 12 FPS in my mog house, and less outside of it, at only 1024x768 resolution. Using the old driver causes quirks for the rest of my computer, like one of my monitors noot turning back on if it gets turned off or the computer goes to sleep. A computer is a major hassle to game on when I have to start dealing with juggling driver versions because certain games don't want to work right with certain versions. I use a PC more for work and actually running media files than for gaming. I imagine that other people that primarily play on consoles think in a similar way. I don't want to have to add a game to my CPU load when the computer is running downloads, my IM programs, and burning DVDs.

You do know if you have the PS2 discs you can in fact install ffxi on ps3?

I have been playing ffxi on ps3 for over a year and a half now. You just need to download a patch (forgot where, guy from pol on phone showed me where to get it) that creates a partition on your drive that acts just like the ps2 hard drive.

Then you just put in your discs (note it has to be one of the PS3s that are ps2 backwards compatible, 60 gigs I think it was, maybe 40 too) and just do what you did with PS2

It runs fine, in fact it kind of runs better than my computer, mind you I generally have 4-5 things going on at same time as ffxi ^_^;

Kick the graphics up to max, full rendering, it looks pretty sick.

Just call POL and ask them about installing ffxi on ps3 and they can give you the link or whatever. It took me all of 10 mins of work to get to the updating screen.

You can change resolution in game to fit it back to normal. Still not as awesome but it works. Once again as others have said you aren't gonna get super graphics or anything, but its faster than hell and can load more than 10 models at a time. Try no lag at all in campaign.

Honestly I played on 360 only for almost 2 years, didn't find it bad at all. And I had the option to play on 2 PC's and PS2 as well.

I wonder if it's just preference? Or some Xbox hardware performs better... who knows.

In my experience PC > 360 > PS2 which seems to be opposite what is posted elsewhere.

That's actually interesting, Mine runs pretty fine through it.

Do you have any programs or downloads running on it? How much of a partition did you give the game also, and how much of your total 60 gigs is free?

Also, how long ago was this, There may have been updates that have fixed such things. FFXI and PS3 alike.

The ps2 version of ffxi on ps3 fails SIMPLY bc u cant be on psn, u cant view dashboard(XML?), u cant see your friends, you cant voice chat. and that fucking MACRO LAG was enough to get me to forget about updating my ps3 ffxi version. if they cant get around those issues it might be worth it for some players. but def not worth it for anyone who has a decent pc / laptop.

a good PC, at an excellent frame rate. A friend of mine built hit PC for just over $1100, and gets 18-20 fps in besieged, with everything set to max.

the framerate doesn't drop from 29.

The only time the framerate drops is when I'm at the AH.

even then it never goes below 24.
