So I recently took the dive and bought myself a Kraken club for DRK zerg, and I want to get some more fun out of it. I'm wondering how it will fair being used as a war/nin in merit/dynamis situations. I only merit if there are two bards or a bard and corsair in the party, so base any opinions off of that.

I know some people are hell bent and say Great Axe is uber, but I prefer dual wielding in merit pts and want that type of setup. If anyone has any info, i'd like to hear opinions or discussions.

It's bad and you should feel bad for thinking that TP gained 60-80 ACC less in your offhand than with a Joyeuse or Ridill would somehow be better.

Kawahori Kabuto - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more this will go perfectly with your Kraken club. Remember to eat blind pots because critical hits will up your Kraken damage.

Its base accuracy is horrible compared to sword sure, but with a corsair accuracy roll and eating meat at bird camp my accuracy was pretty good.

Ive used blau/joyeuse at birds before without accuracy rolls or songs and it works great as long as i can afford to spam squid sushi, so i was wanting to get some opinions on kclub setups

You're missing the point. If you want to have fun with Kraken on WAR go do a MMM run, or farm, or whatever. You will never do as much damage overall with Kraken on WAR as you would with a normal DW setup. In fact I will go so far as to say that axe/axe would probably out damage axe/kraken.

Reasons:
#1 You shouldn't be getting ACC roll at birds - if there's at least 1 2h DD in your pt it's more efficient to do Chaos / xxx
#2 If you're getting piano madrigal you're losing the damage you could be getting from other songs
#3 If you're getting piano madrigal AND still need to eat sushi you're losing out on songs and food

WS frequency, and more importantly WS damage, is not the end all and be all of DDs (SAM withstanding.)

DPS, as in melee damage, is a significant part of your potential overall damage and for many dual-wield jobs it will surpass your total WS damage. Relying on WS frequency at the expense of a huge chunk of DPS is silly. Especially when in doing so you gimp your WS damage horribly anyways.

I'll say it again, if you want to go play with Kraken on WAR somewhere it doesn't matter by all means go for it. Do your party, your friends, and everyone else around you a favor by putting the Kraken away.

That being said, you want a Kraken build? Put a lot more ACC in places you shouldn't be putting ACC at the expense of better overall stats and gimp yourself even further. There's your Kraken build.

Ummm club cap is 240, sword is 250.

That's a 9 acc difference.

A big drop, but not 60-80.

Your hit rate will go down by 4.5% from a sword

Your average swings per attack round will be 5.9 (assuming 4.9 from the KC) compared with 3 (assuming 2 avg from ridill) with axe/ridill.

But you are getting ~100% increase in swings per round.

You will need an acc roll or song, but you would probably need one with axe/ridill

Is it 240? My mistake. Could have sworn it was lower. Anyways, you're still losing suppanomimi - potential for sword merits (many people who like to DW have them)

So it's about 30ish ACC loss not 60-80. I haven't slept yet <_> my bad.

Edit: Point I made about dps still holds true. Kraken damage is 16? I have no idea I'm guessing at this point. Versus Ridill which is 40 I think. Still not looking it up and I don't have one anymore.

HUGE DPS drop for slightly more frequent WS spam since difference in attacks per round between axe/ridill or ridill/joy vs axe/kraken isn't going to be a huge amount.

Kraken is 11 damage. I dont have a ridill or i wouldn't even have brought KC up

yea i have a joyeuse and 4 sword merits atm. I was 8/8 sword and axe but lowered it to 4/4 and raised to 8 archery. i havnt touched ranger for awhile and dont plan on it unless i get rare/ex ebow or win the lotto, so was considering meriting club for the hell of it due to nothing else to really merit in combat

You seem to just be in a rut (correct me if I'm wrong) and for some reason don't want to experience the awesomeness (and huge damage increase, seriously) of WAR/SAM with a 6hit so you're looking for something new.

Pick up an Organics and put it with joyeuse and go out and spam vorpal blade. It's fun, the numbers are fun, and you're not making an ass out of yourself, gimping your damage, or mpking your party members (their HP or their wallets.)

Honestly I don't care how good your party is - nobody kills fast enough that a Kraken won't get annoying over time to the people who actually have hate.

Nah I'm not in a rut, I've experienced ranger 6 hit build and have had alot of fun with it in merit pts, DI and such so i know how that is. All that I'm currently looking for ways to put this club to use other than a zerg a couple times a week.

Maybe im just surrounded by horrible GA wars on my server. I've only seen one competent one but he has bravura and ninurta's sash, so yeah.

Gaxe WAR/SAM - if the player has a brain - is fucking retarded. Just gear it up and try it out for yourself a few times. Need +7 STP with /SAM for a 6hit so Rajas / brutal / chiv or whatever floats your boat.

Seriously though, as was said, level RNG or do RDM en-spell soloing or something, I don't know, just not WAR. This is just one of those things that bugs me, probably from having to deal with a fucking tard of a NIN who swears by NIN with Senj/Kraken is the best damage in the world and nobody, after 3 years and countless times being destroyed, is able to tell him otherwise.

Sorry for coming off so harsh - it's an immediate association to put WAR + Kraken = idiot. But seriously, don't do it lol

i do have ranger levelled and fully merited. I ended up retiring it due to my linkshell having four yoichi's, and countless other great rangers in ls, so i wasnt using it much. Also having a gjallarhorn I only went as ranger to an event once in a blue moon and just considered all the gear a money sink and better off spent somewhere else (kclub zerg)

edit: also all my white mages bitch about any melee who subs samurai as an MP sink, so automatically nobody will understand a 6 hit possible with /sam lol

Maybe retardely easy mobs like Salvage/Nyzul Isle for the lulz but not merit level difficulty, also yeah use it on RNG in merits and it will do more than WAR can anyway.
