I think 1) and 3) are reasonable considering you are doing an event which can potentially yield equipment which beat some of the best abjuration gears. At least you don't have to wait 3-7 days just to get a shot at an item.

Salvage group should not bring more than 10 players to a single zone, the ideal setup is 7-8, less ppl = less competition for gear.

Drop rate is decent in experienced hands. Many salvage groups who have been spamming salvage since it's first introduced 2years ago have 200+ completed upgrade.

gd you have long ass months in whatever country you are in!!

i do agree though. maybe NMs should have a crap drop that is virtually useless like nidhogg scales, that is 100% drop. ppl in the shell that kills can collect them, and once you get a set value of them, you can trade for a rare drop from that NM.

    1) better than gil/IS.
    2) Aye.
    3) 2 times a day is possible, if you mean permits, and if you don't, I have no idea what you're saying. 3 times a day works too, if you play in EU times.
    4) 18 people = do 3 areas at once. I don't see why this is a bad thing.
    5) As for my group, we've done around 350 runs and gotten 85 or so 35's. With raised SSR drop rates, I figure you can get 1 35 per 3~4 runs on average now. Doesn't sound too bad to me, but maybe I've grown numb to it during the years :D.

by saying 10 days it was stating it could be up to 10 days.

say its an AVG of 7

    7x10=70
avg month for this year is 30.4 days a month
70 days is like an avg of 2 months and 1 week
    30.4+30.4+9.2(little over 2 months and 1 week)

1)myself i would be ok with gil/is 1 merit PT = tones of IS
2)... um. ya 900kx12 sounds like a fun time ~_~ still best gear so not that bad i guess
3)how can you do 3 times a day?you cap out at one a day dont you with points? and cant you only gain 1 per day? i guess 3 could be done... get one the day before, then get 2nd, then wait for JP midnight lol. in order to do this id have to get up at like 5AM my time.
4)18 people i bet you got 3-4 bards there ~_~ few whm and all monks. (yes i know other jobs fit in well too)
5)drop rates are still to low. 1 35 per 3~4 runs. Is it a 35 you want? how about the 25s screwing people over for 20+ kills sometimes?

edit: I never pointed out that the system was so bad. You asked why someone would say it is not so great. I just pointed out the reasons. Its not a bad bad system. Just think a few things could be fixed to make it better at times. Such as forced drop rates on NMs after X kills.

    1) I find it easier to get AP than make gil most of the time.. plus it doesn't interfere with buying other things (AP can buy items too, but not as much).. 20k/hr merit pt = 2k/hr IS.. I'll do 5mins rvb with 3 people instead of 6 and be done with it .
    3) Yeah if you go 7 times a week you can't really stack them But that's not really "saving tags(=permits?)" now is it? You can get one permit the day before, and if JP midnight has passed you can do another immediately if you want. So get permit on Monday, do 2 Salvages on Friday for example.
    5) Yeah it's not always something you want, most of the time actually. I like to think of it as a group effort though, not just a personal gain. As for freelot 35's, it's only a problem with frogs and chariot I guess, but usually there is someone who wants to upgrade the piece anyway, so it's alright.

It's all about the averages when it comes to 25's (everything, really). You may go 0/20 on some 25, but 1/1 on 2 others (or 35, etc.). In the end when you do the event long enough it's about the same droprate for everyone I guess.

Forced drop rates would have to come after insanely many kills for it to not affect overall drop rates I think.. It's like upping the drop rates overall, in which case there wouldn't even be need for such a system IMO.

Ballista - People were into Royale and then SE completely dropped the concept. Why? People liked the event and it had a following until it was dropped to develop garbage like Kokba Hostel. Way to push a whole group of potential customers right over to World of Warcraft.

Beastmaster - How many years has it been since this job has lacked a purpose? A few "new" jugpets that were nigh impossible to reasonably obtain, removal of a pointless limitation and Snarl. One thing '04 and '09 have in common: No one knows what the fuck Beastmaster is supposed to uniquely do.

Chocobo Racing - Great concept, stupid execution. No one wants to watch boring as shit cutscenes when players were promised racing with friends and foe alike. Imagine LFP and doing some races to kill the time... sounds awesome no? Well not in my FFXI. The chocobo circuit cant even become the perfect bazaar area because of pointless taxes and so the entire area will continue to be a huge steaming pile of wasted space.

Pankration - Aside from totally ripping Pokemon and other monster-raising games, this event actually had some great potential. Problem? Lack of rewards and no interaction with the pet outside the arenas. Why raise your little monster when you cant even show it off to any of your friends as a non-combat pet? Why bother trying to become the best when you have little control over your pet if you even bother to attend the matches?

Grand Wyrms - The epitome of shitty effort vs. reward ratios. Lets throw a ton of recycled drops onto then new HNMs and never bother to update the lootpools. If that doesnt scream "FFXI failure", I dont know what does.

Ballista was "dropped" long after that. It received updates until a year after Brenner came out. Ballista isn't a failure in any regard and still has its own niche(though Japanese, god please them). The only failure you can account it for is never growing out of the mini-game it is and becoming a source of exp or gil or whathaveyou. 60 cap is still very functional - more functional than almost anything else in this entire game.

It doesn't belong on this list. Now Brenner? That would be a good example.

EDIT: Ballista decreasing size is the result of it being almost impossible to get into for most people. Meanwhile players continue to quit. These new Xbox-era players and on have never even understood it. It actually goes beyond this though. I am convinced 50% of the playerbase doesn't know Brenner exists. As in literally, if I mentioned it to them it would be the first time they heard the term.

EDIT: Pankration was okay until the appearance of Mimics and then Elementals. Though before then Evasion and enspell mosnters were pretty dominant. Pretty much bullshit I guess. (Like Pokemon!)

Ballista, Diorama, and Garrison all had their moment in the sun. Even though it's dead on pretty much every server, there were long periods of time on most if not all of them where there were regular 60-cap and uncapped Ballista matches, and a random Diorama if you shouted for 20min in Jeuno would draw a couple dozen people before it was over. It failed due to interest waning combined with a lack of effort on SE's part to preserve job balance.

As for Garrison, back in the day there were people who would run groups for this every week, I went along on one once and won lot on the shoes or gloves I think. It just aged faster than most content because not only does it become less interesting over time, but also as people level up. Eventually everyone is Lv75 and has been playing for a couple years, and Garrison is the last thing on anyone's mind.

Chocobo Racing, while I haven't done it personally, from what I've read is a lot of time and gil invested up front, for a fairly steady return on gil over the longterm racing in the highest races. Maybe they changed it though, in which case that's more a case of it being nerfed than being poorly designed. Hot and Cold isn't really in the same category as the above, because it's more the kind of thing you do on your own time for 5min every day if you want. You usually make enough gil back to pay for the OP warps you used, and occasionally you get something worth a bit more.

Really the only two on the list that I think merit being on there are Brenner and Pankration, but for very different reasons. Brenner had the misfortune of being introduced as general interest in Ballista was already on the decline, coupled with being less fun (mostly thanks to those detectors) and easily forgotten (you have to be in Jeuno looking at the NPC to think of it, whereas with Ballista you'd occasionally pass by people fighting, which might renew your interest in it).

Pankration on the other hand is actually a lot of fun if you put effort into building a good pet, but there's no real objective to it. If your point is just to amass jettons for Zeni, you can get plenty just putting a level 10~40 mob in there to die every 9 minutes in Diabolo, then toss it and make a new one. If you really want to make a badass mob that can take over Diablo and hold it for a bit, you'll get a lot of jettons but even after buying all the beastmen hats you could farm 20k zeni a week using only HQ plates and still have more jettons than you'd know what to do with. I'm not saying that you should be able to buy a Ridill with jettons or anything, but even adding a few unique rewards that cost like 100k jettons and it would have taken hold much better.

Chocobo Racing is very disappointing. Chocobo Hot and Cold on the other hand really doesnt deserve a place on the board. It's like digging without having to level digging skill. If you have WHM leveled for Teleports, it is pretty much free. It is the only half of chocobo raising they go right.

The biggest problem with racing is that they made it awesome like 10 or more years ago, and then they come up with this stupid CS bullshit? Really?

As for PvP, I have only done a very small amount of it, and it was uncapped, so I cant really comment on balance in lower level caps, but in uncapped it is definitely not balanced. Im sure this is mostly the fact that I didnt know how things worked and geared/subbed badly, but really, some jobs are just better. PLD, RDM, BLU really stand out as amazing jobs (SAM is pretty good too I guess). The system could certainly use some attention (rewards would be nice).

I don't find the once per game day limitation in FoV to be a problem. In some areas, it's the only thing stopping the zone from being completely stripped of mobs all the time. Even with the once per day limit, Ro'Maeve is devoid of mobs with just 10 players in it. Teriggan fares much better thanks to outdoor repop rates, but if people were killing 3x as many mobs, I think I'd have arrived at the outpost and gone right back to town.

FoV is also pretty awesome if you want to get a bit of exp, eat lunch, get more exp, go mail some stuff, get some more exp, etc. It's easier to control when you fight than campaign, and you get seals/skillups. You can also LFG while doing it, and if you get an invite, FoV itself provides a fast way home.

    The elite training regimes, though...blargh.

I think a lot of it has to do with PS2 limitations (i know, i know...). I mean, SE's a pretty smart company with a ton of RPG-ish experience...i think once they make a MMO where they can REALLY add pretty much whatever they want to, it will be the second coming

Ballista has so much hype at one point, but then it burned out after that Fenrir shit happened. They should make it give 30k XP per uncapped session (Not like you can do it whenever you want anyways).

I voted brenner its actually the only event I haven't done in all my years of playing.

And its probably gonna stay that way.

All though I think the game has bigger problems then crappy side events that nobody does.

Voted for Ballista, been playing for 3 years with 400 days played and its the only one i have tried from that list. I guess SE doesnt care to update these. I mean cmon, they must've realised that no one is doing these "events".

Cool so people enter the match and barely play and not give a shit.

Or you can make a point system like campaign and then have people do stupid tactics over and over again for the exp.

Either way would be huge amount of bullshit for Ballista. I'd like to see it reward exp, but it is hard to find out a way that doesn't fuck with it.

EDIT: I didn't bother with Chocobo Racing once I hit the point where I didn't want to watch a single fucking more of those Free Runs. They should just roll the numbers and give me the option to watch the cutscene or not. Save the 2 minute cutscenes for when I have the opportunity to win something, not grinding.

EDIT: How could anyone call Hot and Cold a failure. Jesus christ.

EDIT: Oh my bad bro, did the little chocobo digging mini-game not cure your cancer? Tragedy...
