Driving for a living, I bought a pair of Mako sunnies (idk if you have/get them in the US etc). Paid $250 AUD 10+yrs and still like brand new 8)
I'll grant you & Tyche the overpriced bit, especially lately, but they weren't always as bad in that respect, and there are still some options that aren't totally bonkers expensive.
I also find some of their new decisions aesthetically challenging, but many of their older designs (especially the Square Wires and Square Wire 2.0s, both of which I've owned) attractive, well-made, not excessively ostentatious, and spectacular from a clarity perspective.
That's not to say that other brands don't also have really excellent lenses, but it's one thing Oakley is justifiably famous for, even if they are now overcharging like madmen for it.
i have 5 pairs of rayban aviators various sizes and colours, 120+ for each i've only ever lost one pair when i was shaggin my ex in a sand pit
it's worth it to spend since the cheapies break and scratch much easier
I just went down to my local decomissioned army store and bought some aviators for like 15$, they're pretty sweet.
Also have some nice L.L. Bean sunglasses, but that's only because I'm from Maine and get gift certificates there pretty regularly, they sometimes are a little overpriced there. Nice shit though.
My experience with Oakley has been completely the opposite, but I have access to the Oakley factory store in Foothill Ranch.
I bought a pair of the X Metal frames about 4 years ago. They were at the time just over $300, and I'm still happy with them.
They custom fit the glasses for my stupidly large head. Anytime the lenses have been scratched, anytime I've lost a nose guard, the factory store replaces them free of charge.
hmm, so now we have a counterpoint to all the oakley fandom. this is good. this is exactly why I started this thread.
looks like I'll be browsing the Mall of America for a while this weekend. I do love the look of the oakley sunglasses, though, more than the traditional raybans. even if they're overpriced. so I guess we'll see what works out.
The point is rather moot though, as most (all?) high end sunglasses come with a similar warranty with them. If they don't why buy them? I know my Bolle's have a similar warranty, although I don't live next to a bolle store, so I'd have to send them off. With Oakley's, you're paying for the design, name, and history more than the lens quality these days. Now, other manufacturers have caught up the their lens design and offer cheaper options. Even then, $100+ for a pair of sunglasses is nothing to scoff at, which is what you'll pay for something comparable, although it's better than paying $300+ for a pair of polarized Oakley's.
Edit: Oakley actually offers some polarized glasses starting at $135, so that's pretty reasonable.
this thread needs less debate between styles of glasses and more talk of what type of glasses per shape of head. I saw a article in a GQ mag a while back talking about what looks good for what, I should have saved it because I need a pair and cant remember. Aside from there being like 50 shapes of heads and glasses styles. I personally like aviators and styles like this....

and I hate oakleys... Raybans are just kinda meh too, though I shouldn't speak of such blasphemy on these forums.
I have Oakley Flak Jackets with silver frames and Ice polarized lenses, however these will run you around $220. As for being overpriced, maybe, but I can honestly say these are the best pair of sunglasses I have ever owned.

As a person who's owned more pairs of sunglasses than I can count, ranging from $5-$250, I can confidently say that anything over $50 is a complete ripoff. The $150 ones break and scratch just as easily as the $15 ones, make no mistake.
I'm currently using a $10 pair I bought from a mall stand and they've lasted me 4 years, longer than every expensive pair I've ever owned has.

I cannot stand Oakley sunglasses on men. Cannot STAND them. I've been in Oakley stores, I've held their products, and yes, they are well-made, but the style is just godawful. It just screams Nascar/XTREEEEEEEEME Sports Asshole/Frat/White Trash. Hate them hate them hate them. They're also ridiculously overpriced when you consider they've been knocked-off six ways from Sunday, so that you're paying $250+ for something that looks like it's from a gas station rack.
Guess has some beautiful sunglasses for men and women that sit between the plastic cheapos and paying-for-the-brand-name kinds; I think mine ran $70 and lasted me six years.
Buy the sunglasses that you like.. if you find cheap ones that fit comfortably, match your style, don't look awful, fucking go for it. Hilariously enough Target has been a great source for me.
Yeah, because there are millions of people whose last thought as they were struck in the head hard enough to shatter their glasses and drive them into their skull was "fuck, I should have bought oakleys".
I made the mistake of buying nice sunglasses exactly once, and after they got stolen I got wise and went for the cheap ones. I lose/crush/have stolen about 3 pairs a year.
I've never understood the hype over Oakley. Personally, I hate the style.
Last time I went shopping, I liked both Prada and Armani.
I just got a pair of sunglasses from a website a friend at work told me about.
Color change Solize Sunglasses at - Del Sol
The good thing about these is that they send you a small card with them that says regardless what happens to them, they will replace them, All you pay is the $10 shipping fee. Not to mention through thursday, they have a half off sale. I bought a pair of sunglasses that were $41 and a pair of $9 flip-flops and paid (including shipping) $37.50. I love them and the replacement warrant is bomb.
Hmm, I bought two pairs today, and I'm not really happy with them. They were both from some shitty kiosk, Shady Glasses I think? And I knew they'd be shitty, but I figured they were cheap ($11 each if you buy two) so I could buy a couple of pairs for wearing until I upgrade, and to keep around for camping trips and shit.
I guess that was a good idea, but I got what I paid for. I think those kiosks purposefully park in dimly-lit areas because I looked a lot better in their crappy mirror than I did when I got home. One of the two pairs is almost unwearable, the other is not awful but nothing I feel like I look really good in. I guess they'll do until I can upgrade. I can afford it, but I'm waiting until my friend is done with a huge thesis paper so we can go together. I trust her sense of style more than mine, and when you're dropping $150+ on a pair of sunglasses, that's sort of important.
For what it's worth, I tried on some Oakleys and fell in love. D'oh. But I think half of that was the incredibly cute (and young - I felt dirty) salesman. Salesboy really, he couldn't have been older than 19. But now I'm getting off onto a tangent I don't really think this thread was made for.
