So I have dvd's, i have the movie on my computer, and i have program that was included with vista, can i just burn it like that and pop it in a ps3 or any type of dvd player? or do i have to do it another way?

What do you mean when you say you have the movie on your computer? Is it an m4v, avi, or wmv video file, or a VIDEO_TS folder?

its a .avi so what would I have to do?

If I were you I'd just download a DVDR rather than an avi rip; they're generally shitty quality especially if you hook it up to a larger TV.
