they arent stopping them from peacefully assembling, theyre just telling them they cant hog all the street parking.

Edit: the way im looking at it is this: if we ordered a pizza and paid an equal share, would you be entitled to stuffing your face with most of the pizza?

There are a few 'similar in nature' issues with state laws and constitutional freedoms. Like for example, the right to travel and the state required driver's license and car registration. Essentially it's a sovereign fee and restriction on a civil liberty.

So if you guys wanna argue something, argue whether this goes against the 1st amendment.

    Sure.

"unlawful use of land" and told them to "stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit

Well, if your gonna look at it that way, at least be more accurate. Bob orders pizza for Tom and Fred, except he doesn't ask if they want the pizza, he just demands a annual fee, and if tom and fred don't pay he'll lock them in a rape room or kill them if they resist.

driving isnt a right, its a privilege. they arent stopping you from walking, taking a bus or riding a bike. theyre limiting the usage of a vehicle due to its dangerousness to others and their property and the registration is to ensure that the vehicle is properly maintained and insured.

Not even close to comparable. Interfering with a person's livelihood w/o due process isn't quite the same thing as moving bible study to another area.

Obviously the constitution tops zoning laws.

Except that doesn't apply to this case because the constitution isn't being violated.

Actually owning property and private use of it is a right. The question was/is whether you have this same right on a public road.

The problem was not that obvious. The issue was with the licensing itself. Essentially, license = permission by authority to do an act which without permission, would be illegal. It was argued that the state had no such authority.

Essentially the only constitutional way to do this is to prove that somebody is unsound to drive, before you can put restrictions on them, not the other way around. It's like a mass deprivation of due process.

It's close enough, considering that the courts sided with the States.

Why are you talking about tickets when the issue is zoning regulations?

I made a joke about how absurdly easy this case would be for a court to resolve, and I got taken seriously.

in the case of driving, a license show proficiency in following the rules of the road. rules which are needed for safety. to drive without knowing how to follow the rules is a danger to not only yourself but everyone around you. its the same reason doctors go through a licensing process.

Edit: just so you know i do see what you mean. in a perfect world where people do what theyre supposed to without pushing then yea, licensing is pointless. In todays world its essential to safety, but i still dont see driving as being a right. sure you can own the property but to operate it in public domain requires a certain level of common interest involved. all it takes is one person to crap in the stew to spoil everyone's dinner.
