More or less, the specific details were brought up to explain WHY the zoning rules exist.

The fact is, the zoning rules exist, and if he was having tupperware parties, 12 year old boy rapefests, or stupid book clubs like he was, it's a violating of those zoning rules, he was getting around the law by using his land for something other than the taxes he paid would allow, it was a perfectly reasonable legal move to order him to stop or apply for the correct permit.

those permits costs ten of thousands of dollars too?, cause that seems like a criminal amount to charge people to have a simple gathering weekly at their house to me.
Edit: also Annually is ok, but not weekly, where do you draw the line at how much is too much is every other week, once a month, or once every other month violation of them?

One time use is not different from major use?

Major Use Permit, for doing something on a larger scale than your average homeowner does.

Where people start noticing and caring.

Go over to your neighbors house and take a square inch of sod every day.

After a while, he'll start to notice and wonder wtf is up.

Take a square yard and he'll notice immediately.

Same sort of thing, if you're having weekly or daily traffic which greatly exceeds the norm for the area, where other people are forced to adapt their lives around yours, that's probably the line.

I don't see why people defend this so much. I mean, practically speaking, defending overly sensitive zoning regulations of a particularly bureaucratic county doesn't seem like something people would have personal interest in defending.

    edit:

oh but it's the rules, right? Since everyone here defending it follows guidelines and regulations 100% of the time.

    Only in America!

You can twist almost any analogy to make a point.

Never come across zoning before though

Its not over sensitive? You can't fuck over people around you like this. There are reasons the laws exist in the nature they do.

Why has this thread gone on as long as it has? I seriously wonder. Its fucking clear what was wrong. it was a news agency (sup fawx) trying to make it look like the Christians were being persecuted for being Christian but they failed.

And you'd be grossly incorrect if that's what you were taking away from it. Regardless of what they were doing, if it was a parking issue that they need a permit for then that's what should have been listed on the original citation. Instead it specifically cited the religious assembly as the issue and seemed to be the main point of focus for the county surveyor. On top of that, if it were just a parking issue, then there are many other options these people could have been given to work around that aside from being forced to stop outright or pay tens of thousands of dollars. But those options were never made available to these people because they were never at the heart of the citation to begin with.

Exactly who cared about their weekly gatherings though? It wasn't the neighbors, that's for sure. They specifically mentioned that the Pastor had a good reputation with all of them and they even interviewed one who specifically said there was no problem. The person who called in the violation didn't even live there. They were a visitor as well. And because of one ding in his car, which he doesn't even know for sure who did it, the guy called the cops three times as well as the county. For one ding. This situation wasn't called in because of weekly, long time violations of other residents rights and personal space, it was caused because one dick got a ding in his car and threw a hissy fit.

The VAST majority of the information we have on this particular event has come from other sources then Fox news. The reason it's gone on this long is because certain people refuse to acknowledge simple facts like that.

And zoning laws aren't always right. As cited by the link provided showing an entire town of people following a law that was four hundred years outdated. It's also shown by how the County in this situation was trying to rescind the original documents issued where it states religious assembly as being the issue and refocus their argument around traffic violations. And on top of that, the Pastor is currently continuing with his weekly bible study groups while the trial goes on because the County knows it screwed the pooch on this one.

senoska, you assume they are disturbing people who live around them. For all you know, the neighbors are in on it too. Or they might be okay with it.

I mean, just how much disturbance can you cause with a once a week meeting? It's not like they make a lot of noise praying.

Ah you know what, in my neighborhood there is this old lady that watches everyone. God forbid you park anywhere outside your designated spot or walk on the grass, she will open her window and yell at you.

    You are this old lady.

moral of the story, if you wanna get people for parking violations, don't charge them with "religious gatherings at a pastor's house"

I wonder how different the reaction to this story would be if these were muslims gathering once a week at some imam's house, about 15 of them on average.

I wonder how many times a different form of that question will be asked in this thread.
