I feel bad about the ammunition that chart provides, but really, those three sites were contacted specifically so they could have members participate in the survey and boost their numbers. It was almost fudging in a way, because the low numbers were a bit concerning, so we encouraged them to send visitors to vote for their respective sites so it didn't look like we were picking on them.

My take on the situation is that if you look at the 5 Premiere Sites, they are all part of larger gaming networks. That's really what ties them together - their strong connection to potential players, rather than existing ones. So, even though Allakhazam has a more robust and thriving FFXI community, and apparently 99.9% of players visit FFXIclopedia daily, the other three sites still hang on for their places within their respective gaming networks.

The most popular community site almost tied FFXI Allakhazam. 433 people mentioned Order of the Blue Gartr, an LS website that has grown into a big community and home to many dedicated end-game players.

The only upsetting thing to me about this is that as you mention in the start, there were only 1075 completed responses. Out of all the players that are on all the servers, I expected many more responses.

It would be nice to know additional information about players I think:

What server they play on?

How do they play? End Game, Socially, Casually, which should be reflected in their playtime, but as you know, there are always people who play short time, but do end game.

Maybe get some Eurpean players also in on the information.

For something done by a community site, over 1000 responses is pretty impressive.
If you want to know things like what server they play on, wait for the Vana'diel Census to come out. One of the points in doing a survey like this is to collect information that isn't seen in the official census.

It's interesting to note that in the polls regarding satisfaction with the game:

FFXI gets a average score of 74%. However, you can see that nearly 3/4 of respondents gave FFXI a score between 90% and 70%.

That's exactly what I was thinking, and makes me kind of sad. Makes a pretty strong argument for the case that their interest in communication with this side of things is much more in enticing new customers than communicating with the player base.

I didn't realize those places were *that* dead as far as ffxi stuff goes. I guess cuz... I never went there in the first place lol.

Remember with the case of longer players giving a smaller score, that happens with almost all games over time. I know in this case that SE has been shady in many areas of the game, but even if SE gave the playerbase everything they wanted people that played for 6+ years would still give lower scores than those that have not. It just comes with playing one game for so long.

Sure, people will always complain, as you've said, especially for the 6+ years people, but not at this level. If there had been more communications or less of the, and I quote from the survey, "juvenile" (in regards of AV), sort, I believe the amount of complaint would be a lot more reasonable. Communications go a long way, it's not a perfect game, when different people have different needs. For an example (a bad one I suppose), bad drop rates, people complain, they up the drop rates (or make certain things easier to obtain), people who had it felt like their e-penis is being downsized. The point is not that we want a game that no one complains about, but that they are actually listening and adjusting according to the evolution of the game...etc, and as you've said it, less of the "shady" business.
