    weird gaming quirks

does anyone else refer to controller buttons by the button of the first controller they had?

for example, I had a Super Nintendo for years, and I still to this day refer to the O button on a playstation controller as the A button, and the X button as the B button. for some reason I'm not as bad with the triangle and square buttons, I'm not sure why. I can't be the only person who does this...

or if you have any other weird gaming quirks feel free to post them.

I refer to the XBox controls as L1+L2/R1+R2 instead of trigger/bumper

^ same here. I hate it when people say "HIT DA BUMPAR!" and I for some reason hit the L3 or R3 (Yea I still call 'em that too).

I think I confused the Genesis with the SNES a lot. Weren't the X/Y buttons on there changed or something? Can't remember.

Dreamcast had them flipped around. Sega was just 2 rows of 3 buttons ABC, XYZ.

Dreamcast went from top, right, down, left: YBAX

    SNES was XABY

In shooting games, I make sure to put a bullet between the eyes of all my fallen enemies... just to make sure. In a completely unrelated note I also have a terrible relationship with my mother.

I jump a lot in any game that allows you to jump.
    I just jump too much.

It's my main weakness in a lot of fighting games.

In turn-based RPGs, I try to do Mario RPG-esque timed-attacks in all of them.

Can't remember a time when it worked.

    FF8.

More appropriately, just for Squall, but that didn't stop me from trying to time attacks for EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER throughout the duration of the game.

Fucking same, I just beleive jumping is a faster way to travel, I even dash jump as well, thanks mega man X.

I usually also have tunnel vision in fighting games, such as if I'm trying to do a Super Shoryuken, I'll keep trying to do it until it's excuted

In shooters I usually try to be a sniper in big maps if not anything use for aoe since people LOVE to clusterfuck in big maps, for some reason but their far apart in small maps.

My wife does some odd things, especially when playing Final Fantasy games. Recently, she was playing FF2, and she took the time to level every party members weapons at the same rate.

Also, whenever she plays any FF game, she takes about two to three times as long to beat it as it would someone else, because she does everything. She walks over every inch of the map, gets everyone to the highest level she can, finds every side boss and side mission, goes in every house, etc etc.

Have the jumping problem to, used to make Mario jump to the beat of the music in Super Mario World just because of the jump-sound. May also explain why my acrobatics in Morrowind was maxed.... ;/

I always refer controller buttons by the DualShock2 standard, because its annoying remember which layout setup the lettered controllers (SNES/Dreamcast/Xbox) had because they're all reversed order of each other....
(not sure why I can remember the orientation of 4 shapes without second thought, but not my old SNES pad)

One quirk I have is always saving up 'rare' meds in essentially every RPG, for use in that last boss fight, to which I don't even end up using them anyway.
    (I'm looking at you, Megalixers)

I also have a habit of hitting the 'home/guide' button twice randomly at times for the hell of it, regardless of what current-gen gaming platform I'm on. (and in the case of my PC, I just smack my keyboard's mute button twice instead)

LoD explained pretty clearly what needed to be done!

I just happened to forget FF8 and LoD, and probably every other game besides Superstar Saga/Mario RPG.

Also guilty of the same shit. I also use guides for games with crafting systems so I know if something I got is only obtainable once or twice throughout the game. Don't wanna use it on something shitty.

In a lot of Playstation/PS2 games, the camera was controlled by L1+R1. I used to always move my characters by just holding the analog stick up while rotating my camera if I need to turn. I even sometimes do it in games where the right analog stick changes the camera.

All of this is true for me except the guides... I hate using guides on games until I've beaten them.

I do this in Soul Calibur all the time, and I do it with combos in Tales of Destiny II. It's not that I suck, I can play well if I focus really hard and remember to react to what's going on as opposed to trying to use specific moves... I just generally don't.

Whenever I play a shooting game, I reload...way to much. Even if I have a magazine with 50 bullets I'll reload after five shots if that's all it took to take down foe. To often I kill somebody and reload only to have somebody else jump out and gun me down while I'm reloading.
