    LCD Monitor Issues

I recently bought two LCD monitors from a City surplus auction. One for five bucks works fine, the second--newer, more expensive, and better--doesn't exactly work. The monitor in question is an oldish ViewSonic VE150mb.

The issue is that it powers up fine, works perfectly fine with no image issues at all--all for 1-3 minutes. Then, it instantly blacks out and turns off. A few seconds later, it will attempt to turn back on, flash a normal image on the screen, then blink back off.

The overall issue is that, being from a surplus auction, they didn't handle things properly. The monitor's original AC adapter/power cord is nowhere to be found. I've used two AC adapters with the correct connection, correct voltage, but unknown amperage--both with the above results.

My question is, does /bg/ think that is the problem? Or is that more evident of an actual internal problem?

    YAY VIEWSONIC.

Your problem can be solved by doing a simple google search. ViewSonic had some crappy QA with a whole series of their monitors that were made in a certain country during a certain time frame and the result was that higher end graphics cards cause them to 'sputter', where they randomly flicker and turn on and off. There are workarounds and solutions however, you will have to experiment with them and see what works for you. Most of these have to do with the cable type you're using or whether or not your graphics card has certain settings.

If you've already tried switching power supplies for the monitor and they didn't work, start going at it from the software angle. The only other angle you can attack it from if that fails is looking internally to see if the QA was bad enough to allow it to suffer from capacitor plague.

Found and used a different AC adapter, 2Amps instead of the required 3. It appears to be working fine, as long as I don't use the speakers.
