It's horseshit that you are expected to live with dentures after a fucking RPG in Iraq took your teeth out. Better medical alternatives exist, and you got fucked up because you were ordered into a war zone by our country. You should be given the best medical care available, not whatever is convenient for the VA.

I hate the way we look after injured soldiers in this country, it makes me sick.

Sorry for the rant. I worked on Extreme Makeover and saw how wonderful veneers and bridges could look and feel when done by a proper professional dentist. Although I suppose as long as you're still fighting that's one hell of a monetary risk.

I recently had jaw surgery and I got off lucky b/c of having good bones so I didn't need wires, nevertheless I was restricted and still have the same diet as you pretty much, in all seriousness it makes me want to kill myself, I can not see how people do this permanently or for more then 4.5 weeks (period of time between the surgery and when my surgeon should okay me for real solid food).

Anyways in addition to what Plow mentioned with taters, blenderized lentil curry is a good source of protein and tastes om nom nom good. Can mix in other relatively soft stuff before or after the blenderizing as well. Also, have you tried eggs at all? I just started being able to eat them hard boiled but scrambled or omelets should be soft enough for you to not even have to chew from the get go. Can also try other root veggies/squashes if you are sick of mashed potatoes. Celery root, sweet potatoes, pumpkin are all good for serving mashed or in a soupy state, you can add crushed pumpkin seeds ontop for a little extra protein as well. Lastly, you can give cream of (insert vegetable) soups or bisques a try to give more variety.

There are way, way worse cases of the VA fucking people than me, trust me. I have met and talked with countless soldiers who are dealing with some fucked issues because the VA doctors can't agree on what's wrong or what the best way to fix it is. I have a really good friend who is going through some of the most textbook symptoms of PTSD I've seen...yet they still won't help him. They made a notation in my file that I was exhibiting some symptoms of PTSD, but never told me about it while I was in. I only saw it on leaving the military and taking my medical records with me.

The implants and even the mini-implants are awesome...and a hell of a lot cheaper now than they used to be. I am going to talk to my doctor about the mini-implants myself (around 2.5k for a total upper) That is a cost I could undertake without a lot of difficulty, maybe one day down the line when the full implants are more affordable, that will happen. You are definitely correct on the risk of fighting in implants though. One of the guys on The Ultimate Fighter this year had four implants knocked out in a fight. That is a huge monetary risk. Although, I am 28 right now and probably not going to be doing this for too much longer, I just hope to establish myself a little and open a gym or work at a gym training other fighters.

@ The Finesse: I appreciate it man, but there are better things to do with money than put it in my ugly mug. ^.-

    Don't do it man :/

Call your dentist to see if the pain will subside or if there are other options. DIY stuff like that never ends well.
Agreed wholeheartedly. Stop up in Pittsburgh when you're in the state. Seppuku and I will get you drunk and we'll fix your teeth for you

lol, my fiance went to school at Pitt, we'll probably be there at some point to visit some friends. I wanna be able to eat at Primanti's if we go though...ever since I saw it on Man vs. Food.

Primanti's is good drunk food. If you want a sandwich that's good regardless of if you're drunk or sober, go to Peppi's.

He was concerned, I told him not to worry about it, shit happens. Teach me to shoot from that far again. lol
Ouch... that's one hell of a way to learn.

Usually people with no control are newbies, or they're just so big that even their "light" sparring hurts. If it's the former I'll let them know they're going at it too hard, and if they continue to spazz out I'll light them up. If it's the latter I suck it up and try to focus on evasion and defense, and give them good body shots when there's an opening.

Anyway, hope this all works out for the best for you, Noble.

Maybe this will help you, maybe it won’t but I figured I’d toss my experience with a partial out there anyways. From the sounds of it, you have your temp one’s at the moment. They are not going to feel right, and it’s going to be a pain in the ass to eat with them, at least mine were. They shouldn’t be hurting you thou. If they are go back to where you got them and have them adjust them for you, don’t do it yourself. When I had my temp one I couldn’t bite directly into things. I had to get one to replace my front top teeth. I had to bite more with the side of my mouth, it was a pain in the ass.

As far as your permanent one goes, take your time getting them done. When I got mine the dentist waited 6 months before taking measurements. Once they got them in they did have to adjust them a little bit, but now I forget that there even there. They did a really good job with them. I can eat just about anything with. The only thing I’ve come across that I can’t eat normally is hard fruit. I’ve got to actually cut that up to eat, but everything else I can eat just fine. Including corn on the cob.

Not sure if this will help you any, like I said it’s more my experience with them then anything. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck with your situation.

A car wreck five months ago destroyed my front four teeth; I've lived off Ensure Plus (and generic of the same formula) drinks. My jaw was maimed pretty badly too such that my bite isn't really workable, nor will it be for a long time. I can't really offer anything in the way of denture experience, as they don't even want to put temporary teeth in there right now until much of my bite is corrected otherwise. In a few more months, they will be able to put some denture-like appliance in with my orthodontic appliances. I just want the OP to know other people are dealing with the same lame shit. The entire timetable is looking to be around 3.5-4 years before they can put dental implants in, so yeah I won't be able to take a bite of a sandwich for awhile. Sorry to hear about the denture discomfort, but I hope it becomes easier to eat for you soon.

God damn that sucks. At least you seem to have a good attitude about it, that can go a long way. After my initial accident I sat in a hospital in Germany drinking Ensure for about a month. I thought I was going to go insane...I always thought I was going to get a Purple Heart...just didn't ever figure it'd be for biting a bumper.

@Fhqwghads: My first week I trained in Iowa I got hit the same way, broke my nose. You would think that I would know better by now. This long layoff has killed my timing, I'm noticing everything is just a bit off. Going to take a few weeks to get back into the swing of things and hopefully get a fight scheduled by the end of the summer. I am walking around at about 220 atm...need to be at 190ish so I can cut and fight at 170. I am not looking forward to missing all the summer barbecues.

Man...teeth implants seem awesome. My teeth are totally healthy and I'd still consider getting them ripped out for that.

Though I don't want normal looking ones, I want carbon fiber ones, so I can gnaw through steel.

Trimming them sounds like a bad idea, man. I have a partial that I (often) fix with superglue so some DIY stuff can work, but changing the shape if the piece might just make it worse. Definitely take that one in to the dentist when you go to get molds for you real set and show him what's wrong though.
Also have you considered just saying fuck it, and spending the extra 500 bucks and getting a really sweet grill on the final set too?
