    Local Area connection

As some of you have been able to tell, I haven't had much luck with my lag spikes via wireless. So, I planned on moving the modem downstairs and putting my grandma's PC on wireless while I stay here (another couple months) since the most hardcore thing she does is play Yatze online.

For some reason though when I plug in the local area connection it says that I have limited/no connectivity and I haven't been able to get around that so I've had to revert back to wireless until I can find a solution to the problem.

Run cmd and do an ipconfig and paste it on here. That would be a start. Another thing is try a different cable one that you know is working.

    Disable your interfaces.

    Run from command:

    ipconfig /flushdns

Reboot your computer, reboot your router.

Enable your networking interfaces. The problem should be corrected.

If you want run from command:

    ipconfig /release all
    ipconfig /renew all

For some reason DHCP and DNS with routers doesn't play the way it should a lot of times. I notice this a great deal whenever I use my router to replace my server for DHCP/DNS for when I need to take it down for maintenance and I still want internet access (hoping to change this soon with virtualization). The other computers on the network absolutely refuse to play nice when changing DHCP/DNS sources, so you have to flush out all of the caches. It really shouldn't be that difficult, but it is. If this doesn't work for you go ahead and post the results from running:

    ipconfig /all

For us to see. However, if you see a autogenerated IP instead of your router's DHCP handle IP, either your ethernet cable is bad, your ethernet connectors are bad, or the computer still doesn't know where to find DNS/DHCP from. Try setting DNS and gateway manually to your router's address, and failing that, try a static IP in the field of your router's IP.

k about to start the process in the previous post, but before I do, going to post the ipconfig and ipconfig/all of this computer (which uses the same modem and works on this one).

Do a renew... It seems like your IPs are fine honestly. I was expecting to see a 169 addy but this is way different. It looks like everything is fine. Process the other post then see if that helps...

For some more troubleshooting, try going straight to the modem. Take the router out of the equation, do ipconfig /release, /renew, don't bother posting that screenshot because that will have your real IP address (hopefully). See if you can connect to the internet that way.

If that works, try different cables to and from the router. Reset the router (unplug for at least 30 seconds, go for a smoke or something to be sure)

    Renew again?
This one was when I tried to renew, and it didn't work, but gave me an error

Also, the one with the router plugged in is with the other computer, should that matter? The one I've been trying to hook it up to the whole time has had no router.

The router is what allows you to have multiple machines on the connection at the same time. EVERYTHING is supposed to plug intop the router. The modem goes on the WAN side, and the wired machines go on the other side.

well i meant directly by the modem if you call that a router, but i call it modem. I meant the other PC was hooked up to an external router (the one i use to connect wirelessly to)

I mean Other PC was Phone line to modem > Modem to external router > External router to pc.
But on my PC downstairs was no external just Phone to modem > modem to PC

    Edit: and it's dsl
