pretty funny, I think it got potential to be the R-rated ver. of Scrubs lol

I enjoyed it. I have only seen bits and pieces of Scrubs, but this seems to be sorta like Scrubs with a side of House.
I liked it as well, RN's represent! Hope this show gets green lighted for a full season.
Surprised how two shows with the same premise are coming out. Saw a commercial for one starring Jada Pickett Smith recently.
Spoiler: show
wow, between this and united states of tara I might consider subscribing to showtime lol
Took me forever to recognize Edie Falco.
oh wau, that was pretty good.
damn, i didnt notice that she was edie falco lol
bump, anybody watching this? I think at times her penis is bigger then Dr. Cox's. Also, I love how Showtime puts out their episodes a week ahead of time on on demand. good shit.
Enjoyed this show last night. Was really good.
It's a good off season show.
Augh dyke hair, I was hoping for Hello Nurse.
"Are you fucking nuts?"
Oh hey, a Nurse Jackie thread.
I don't know. I've watched three episodes now, and it's really failing to grab my attention. The parallels between Jackie and House are kind of evident - both brilliant health care workers with highly likable traits with a drug problem. I'd probably be much more interested in the show if I hadn't started watching House, like, three months ago.
The thing is, House is a much more interesting character, whereas Jackie's is just "sassy". In fact, a giant problem with Nurse Jackie is how predictable (and stale) most of the characters are. Gee, big guy named Thor is gay. Gee, the new nurse is all reserved and idealistic. Gee, the boss is overbearing and unlikable. They don't interact with each other in any way that makes the stories or themselves interesting.
I'll give it a few more episodes, since Showtime has really picked up where HBO has fallen off in terms of great television, but I don't know much longer I'll keep watching.
Idk, maybe I haven't watched enough House but I find it closer to Scrubs; Young idealistic newbie with a hardened, asshole professional who gets shit done for patients she cares about. I think the biggest similiarity to House is just the drugs and I don't think Thor is supposed to be gay but just that his appearance is deceiving.
Just curious and not to bash Showtime but how has HBO fallen off in terms of great television? They continue to have very unique comedies and dramas and I'd say baring a few specific shows on other networks they have one of the strongest lineups on TV
Well, earlier in the decade, there were some amazing hits on HBO's lineup. OZ (which had just been regretfully canceled), The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, and The Wire were all great, edgey TV shows. I know a lot of people like Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm too, even though I don't watch Entourage and I actually can't stand Curb Your Enthusiasm.
It seems to me, that since The Sopranos went off the air, HBO hasn't been able to get proper footing of the television they were once producing. I can't really name that many HBO shows that are hits, outside of Big Love and Entourage.
But Showtime has really come out of nowhere. I know there's a lot of popularity for Californication. Dexter and Weeds are both amazing shows, very much in the vein of what HBO used to produce.
Nurse Jackie most definitely fits in with this group, since I don't think a show like this could pass on a network. I just don't think the show is very interesting, is all.
What is a hit though? Is it something that has viewers/critical praise/awards or award nominations? Or just 1-2 of the 3? Because I'd say that HBO still has all three to some degree and even some of the shows you mentioned like The Wire were not really that watched when they first aired. HBO still has what I would consider to be edgy shows just that they are all relatively young (1-2 seasons) so they haven't had the chance to grow yet. Also I'd argue that as cable drama gets more and more diverse there won't be another drama that rivals the Sopranos on any cable network for a very long time or ever, in the same way that Seinfeld has yet to truly be topped as a comedy.
Just finished episode 3, starting to really take a liking to this series.
I know this sounds odd, but the student nurse reminds me of (Nerd Sci-fi referance inc!) of a actor from Babylon 5, he was the assistant to Londo Mollari, I believe the character's name was Vir.
Just the mannerism's and way she acts seems like a page right of his book.
Thanks for the link, since we don't have showtime I didn't even know about this show. I liked it quite a bit and hope the rest of the episodes end up online.
