What platform you have has no connection to how articulate you are or what your style of gameplay is. A true "hardcore" gamer as you call it is not a pc player it is a person who *gasp* plays games anytime anywhere on anything they can. I do agree with you that console games are more accessible to the masses therefore has bigger numbers and includes more retarded people in its ranks but it evens out because there are more console gamers overall.

And fyi just because you cannot control or modify a console to change the FPS or AA on a console game does not mean console gamers do not care about it. Played one match and promptly returned it because of this shit. When it comes to Xbox live online matches in any game, I'm a huge fan of introducing an age filter. The only time I ever even plug my mic in is if I know for a fact friends are playing the game with me. Even on L4D I won't use it. I will gladly get kicked out for not using a mic to avoid being stuck in a group with a 12 year old barking commands out and screaming like a little fucking girl when people don't listen. The new AI director is a decent leap forward in the programming of the game and should provide much more versatility and changing conditions in the game. I don't know if it will seem like fluff or not on the outside but from a game developers standpoint it is hardly fluff.

Excuse me for being cynical given that the AI Director for L4D was basically touted as revolutionizing gaming and turns out to be pretty subtle, given that only Versus has replayability and regular zombies are not much more than filler between attacks by special infected (and weapons for boomers).

Maybe it will be great, I won't rule that possibility out. I also can't rule out the possibility of some procedurally-generated fences and dumpsters putting one team's tank spawn in a Chute of Death™ and the other's in a more open, less dangerous spot, leading to extensive QQing.

Yeah the funny thing I noticed about L4D (well really all multiplayer games) is on paper the players complain and want more variety and more randomness in their games until they actually start playing them. Then all they do is complain and want both teams experiences to be exactly the same.

Yep, or more precisely, they hate losing because the game put them in an insurmountably disadvantageous position.

e.g. Team that was infected first very usually won if they were competent, because they knew when (and whether) things like tanks and witches would show up.

I'll readily admit I want more variety in the form of playable characters (because the sound bytes are fun), useful weapons (not you, hunting rifle), and campaigns (for a change of scenery). I couldn't care less about the procedurally generated elements that may unbalance what would've otherwise been a very close, competitive game.

The only person misunderstanding is you I think. Not once did I say "EVERY CONSOLE PLAYER IS A NEWB LOL." What you expect of your platform and what you get will pretty much be the same. Therefore the "Being shit on..." line holds true. The console -is- a magnet for casual gamers and they -are- the majority.

I have no idea why you are so locked onto this PC vs Console thing, this is not a debate about that. It is about expectations. PC gamers have higher expectations than console gamers because of what I mentioned. It invariably makes it easy to spot a console gamer.

Nobody mentioned changing AA or FPS either. This is you starting a PC vs Console debate. How many people know how much AA GTA4 has on the PS3 and 360? It certainly isn't a majority. Do they know it looks different? Possibly. How many PC gamers know how much AA GTA4 can have for PC? A much larger amount of the playerbase that's for sure (it doesn't have any AA options). Crappy FPS on all platforms and yet it still sold/reviewed well.

Why does Halo 2 get a 7 on PC but it gets 9+ on Xbox? The masses loved that shit on Xbox but why not PC? Expectations.
