Increasing FPS on FFXI

We have exactly the same processor specs, and you just described my performance exactly. I can turn the background res up to more than double the foreground, turn on full settings, max drawdistance and so on and still hit 29.4 FPS in places where I'm alone or with just a couple of other characters/NPCs on-screen, even in zones where the extra drawdistance reveals an enormous amount of extra textures to be rendered. But running 640x640 (with all my settings turned off) I'm fucked as soon as I'm dealing with more than a 6-man party. Weather, avatars and telepoints aren't an issue, although BRD songs (Ballad especially) are.

What video card are you using, out of interest?

Yep, that pretty much describes exactly how FFXI runs on my PC. Though I haven't noticed the Bard song issue too much. Right now, I'm using a (slightly overclocked) 9500GT 1GB... I know it's garbage but I got a really good deal on this PC, I'm going to be upgrading to a better card soon, but it's more for other games, I doubt it'll do anything for FFXI. ><

Antitheses G, have you tried opening the task manager and seeing how much your CPU is being loaded and how much memory is being used when you have all those things running? I know on my old PC with 1GB of RAM, I had to be careful of how many tabs I had open in Firefox or everything would just bog down.

ATI Radeon Xpress 200. Windows XP.

use RMclock and increase voltage to your processor, I've had a very smooth framerate with ATI radeon xpress 200m (which i believe is severely flawed to 200 in comparison) with only 128 mb of dedicated video, 1gig of ram, with 1024x768 (i think i either buffered 1:1 or 2:1, so i think its 1:1 though so buffer was set to 1024x768 as well)

unfortunately, my laptop is HP, and no longer works due to being a shambling pile of shit where parts break after you fix one another (AC adapter > left click touchpad > fan > ctrl key > battery, dont buy HP for the love of god)
