I wonder if this was apart of what was cut in the Stimulus bill due to concerns over future deficits? It seems like an amazing amount of stimulus in the economy, especially automotive if 1 Billion has already been exhausted in 4-5 days?

Were they really that stupid to not expect people to jump all over this? lol. So many people I know that want a newer car (don't care about MPG as long as it's >25 combined, so any sedan really) and drive qualifying vehicles.

Also, I find the new EPA estimations to be... well... bullshit. They tagged my car under the new one as 18/27, the old numbers as 20/29, and owners regularly report 23/32. Call BS if you want, but using all factory parts and regular Goodyear Eagle Touring tires @ rating, I get 22/33 even with AC blasting in the summer. I don't grandma the acceleration either. My parent's Equinox gets a EPA rating of 17/24, but with stock everything (incl. tires, don't know what they are offhand), they get 20/25. My father likes to lay on the accelerator too.

I get the government wants to push us into certain vehicles and designs the tests to probably favor one type over another. (Like how hybrid EPA numbers are never touched by consumers either.) But give me a fucking break. My car as a 22% higher city and 18% better highway real-world mileage, and I'm not an ideal driver for setting fuel-economy numbers by a long shot.

from that article Veldagess posted from a commentor

So lets get this straight, we spent non existent taxpayer money to fund this program, while at the same time spending large amounts of money in itself paying congress officials wages to bicker back and forth about this for weeks, only to can the entire process?
    yeah government intervention

The program was set to run until November or until the money ran out.

Well it did, and they sold 22k cars in 5 days.

So, looks like I have a buyer. Just need to fax a copy of the title and some info to their loan officer and they are overnighting me a cashier's check for $14,650 - a profit of $1445 on the car (minus about $100 for car washing, ad listing, etc.)

Not a terrible profit considering the difficult situation, although I don't know if it was worth the stress, time, and financial risk involved. I don't think a second career in car-flipping is in the cards for me lol.

But hey, better than just letting the credit card rewards rot, right?

Pretty stoked to be done with it. Now where's the nearest hookers and blow dispensary 'round here?
