Playstation 3, VGA Transcoder, 1920x1200, Questions

I have a 24" LCD (Soyo Topaz-S, VA Panel, 1920x1200 resolution) with VGA & DVI inputs, however no HDMI inputs as this is not an HDCP display

I also have a VDigi VD-Z3 VGA transcoder, which converts a component Y-Pr-Pb signal to VGA, this particular unit is capable of 480p/720p/1080i, however it's possible it does 1080p but there isn't much information available in regards to that

I just purchased a PS3 on Ebay, and was curious if there's anyone here familiar with using a PS3 over Component through a VGA transcoder and running it on their non-HDCP computer monitor?

Probably not right? I figured I'd at least give it a shot on BG, to see if anyone had any suggestions

I know quite a bit about the situation, so no "I think" posts please, hands-on experience, and perhaps 2nd-hand "I saw my friend do this/say this" is alright as well

    Thanks in advance

I use a PS2/Wii over Component, which goes into a receiver and comes out component to VGA to my projector. I also have my computer output VGA to the receiver, which then comes out component to VGA to a projector. They all work.
This is the cable I use.

I know this isn't 100% your situation, but I'd say my receiver and your transcoder are equal to each other. And I'd say my projector is non-compliant. I've dabbled with going from component to VGA on my Dell and HP monitor, and I recall that that worked as well.

When the new PS3s come out I may end up in your situation. I'm interested in knowing if it'd work, I'd hazard a yes, except for Blu-ray video?

I believe component to VGA doesn't work correctly, at least that's what I've read from a few peoples posts on Hardocp, as Component is YPbPr, and VGA is RGB, two different image signals, this is why you need some sort of transcoder to convert the signal from YPbPr to VGA

Either way, the problem I was having has been solved, it appears the Vdigi VD-Z3 VGA Transcoder has a maximum image output of 720p

I bought this 2 years ago for $89.95 USD, anyone want to buy it cheap? Let me know I bought the X2VGA2 as a sort of upgrade and since it has two component inputs, I'll no longer need this one

It works perfectly, has no damage or anything, and I have all the cables

I've had my PS3 do 1080p last I checked via HDMI->DVI adapter, but my monitor does support HDCP, so perhaps that helped...
(I have it running straight through HDMI now as I like my PC hooked via DVI)

i think the component to VGA should work if your monitor supports Sync on Green or SoG. i remember that the PS2 Linux kit was very temperamental about what monitors it would work with as its "VGA" signal was really nothing more than a repinned component video signal. monitors that supported SoG would see the 3 channels then interpret the sync signal as given when it saw the green pass through. now i'm no EE, i'm not really up on this, i don't remember much, so if i'm wrong, don't flame me. but this may at least give you a place to start your research.
