RMT Pwner v1.337 6 months later

So it's been about 6 months since SE implemented their RMT Pwner v1.337 software which was supposedly going to lead to gil buyers getting banned. There are a lot of people on my server that I am like... 99% sure buy gil, but I have yet to even hear of 1 person getting banned for buying gil. How about you guys? Any stories of people you know or know of that have been banned as a result of this software? Does RMT Pwner actually do anything?

Too bad that entry can't be edited. They talked about it at Fanfest too.

I think you are kind of mistaken on how this works. I think they were only explaining what they have done to stop RMT, not that it was something new they were introducing.

I don't really know what comments you are looking for here. The amount of RMT is way down in the game from their hey-day. At some point you can't get rid of all of it no matter what you do, and gil is now prohibitively expensive for 99% of the sane population. In fact, I think it is time for them to loosen up on the reigns a bit, and get some more gil into circulation, even if RMT does rebound a bit.

Fails to stop brogame tells = fails in general.

I don't see how it would be possible to stop brogame tells other than getting rid of trial accounts or disabling/tell in trial accounts. If they do the latter, brogame will probably just start shouting in wg.

There are a few things they could do to curb brogame-like /tells...

They could add rate-limit to /tells for people not in party/alliance/linkshell/friend list.

They could build a detector for /search spidering & alphabetical /tell spam.

They could build a blacklist of full URLs and auto-jail ppl who send "www.brogame.com" in more than one /tell a minute, or something like that.

They are, in fact, doing none of these things. I asked a GM how quickly I would get banned if I sent a help desk request for each spam /tell I got. He said "pretty quickly".

SE... doesn't... care... get over it.

Edit: In the aforementioned GM call, I pointed out something that I'm sure has been mentioned in these forums before. For a legit player to properly report suspected RMT activities, he needs to take time out of his gaming day to log out and submit the report via POL. The legit player is punished for attempting an act of civic duty that he shouldn't need to do in the first place. The GM agreed that it was indeed troubling... and suggested that I log out to POL to submit feedback regarding that problem... /facepalm.

There was a followup interview shortly after this SFT report where they mentioned that it was indeed a new technology that they had just implemented. I'll look for the link and post it.

The question I am basically asking is:

SE indicated in this SFT report and the interview I just mentioned that they are now tracking and banning gil buyers, not just gil sellers. I personally have never once heard of somebody getting banned for buying gil, even after they implemented this new software. Was it all bullshit, or have any of you actually heard verifiable stories of people getting banned for buying gil?

The question is NOT "Should they ban gil buyers?" or "Do they have an incentive to ban gil buyers?" The question IS "Are they actually banning gil buyers in practice?"

There really is a program called RMT Pwner v1.337

I just find it really annoying that people actually think that they made a program and called it that, they were just trying to be funny -_-

My record for reporting brospam is four reports in one day. But in each report I clearly specify that I don't need a live gm. I also make sure all the info is in the call request so they do not need to contact me.

I have asked GM's if it is important for me to keep reporting these if I find the time, and the gms always say "Please continue we rely on these"...etc. I have not heard of a GM banning people for submitting legitimate reports before.

Or allow players to make a list of "bad words" and auto-ignore those tells.
Or make an option to "never receive a tell from trial account"
Or disable /t /sh for all trial accounts like many other MMO

    Options do exist.

Odd, every GM discussion and auto-reply encourages to submit when this occurs.

I keep hearing that there is a windower plugin that stops them. If there is... hmmm.. 3rd party tools that solve the problem months before SE....
