Why all these people saying we must buy PS3 now zomg? The site lists Windows as the other platform in case it hasn't been mentioned already. I'll keep my PC, thanks. Heres hoping the new game can actually test its limits.

Mine too.... friend called up and asked if I wanted to static tonight. I was all excited about starting BLM before this news.... now it seems kinda like it might be a waste if all of our ffxi efforts are going to be reset to 0 if we want to play the new one.
It will be really interesting to see how this news effects ffxi in the upcoming weeks, if at all. Hell, maybe some things will improve!
Edit: My god those screenshots are amazing.....
Right now all I can think about is the original FFXI teaser where the Goobues ate Mandragora and Fafnir flew into the Aery. So far this looks more polished than FFXI debuted, however it could also be that's just modern graphics talking. Heed the lessons of the FFXI teaser.
If I had to make a poorly informed guess at 14's plot I think I'd agree with Priran. Perhaps Eorzea is the "Paradise" talked about in FFXI that exists when the sleeping gods are awake. Thus the "land embraced by might gods" quote. And logically Vana d'iel and "Paradise" can't exist at the same time. Maybe then this is either a distant past or distant future Vana d'iel. Visually it looks like a spiced together FF11+12, which I like.
Hoping for some kind of transfer from XI to XIV is fantastic. That is like saying "well now that I finished FF7 I will transfer my level 99 characters to FF8 and coast through the game". It is so beyond stupid there's nothing more to say about it as it flies in the face of the entirety of gaming.
In any case, I have to say I'm ultimately not really interested in any new MMO after FFXI. FFXI is fun at it's best, but when it's bad god damn is it a waste of time. The only possibility I would leave open of picking up 14 is if some of the people I enjoy gaming with were to check it out.
Exactly what I was hoping Rapture would be.
I wonder if the whole Job system could be eliminated and in stead they implement a system similar to the way you set blue magic.
Very similar to BLU magic setting you set your JTs JAs and Spells and WSs the higher level you are the more points for each category you get.
hmmmmmmm will FF14 use playonline i wonder
.hack was one game split into four pieces. Literal episodic gaming.
Allowing players to 'transfer' their FFXI characters to FFXIV would be a colossal mistake. Nobody wants to start an MMO where a large chunk of players have had a head start, it's just stupid. I hope they do mixed servers, I enjoyed playing with foreign people, although I don't know if I'll end up playing this. Time will tell.
Anyone notice the lack of tarutaru in the trailer and screenshots? Other races are all there.
They suddenly went extinct? All got stuffed and roasted, or maybe turned into taru salami? That would be bad.
Tarus are in the logo
i do hope you can transfer items at least. I seen this in other games , like dungeon siege by example , but who knows.
Transfer chars would be asking to much ;;.
I spy some Blurple

The level cap for the game is 100. Most of the game is already outlined and it has been leaked. Maelstrom expansion with a 90 cap, Emerald Dream expansion with a 100 cap, Burning Legion expansion with a 100 cap. I'm just going to wonder if they'll do something else before/after the BL expansion, because chances are their new MMO will come out around the time to ED expansion hits based on timing (another year and a half/2 years for Maelstrom to hit, 2-2.5 years for ED after that, so 4-5 years until new MMO).
Honestly I hope they scrap everything about FFXI transferring and make it completely impossible. A major reason for gear being so good at release and never getting better is that the system they had built up was about very few +stats involved. And they never wanted to branch out to go bigger. While some people look at WoW items and think it's crazy big numbers, it GREATLY helps with itemization and putting out gear with improvements. If a piece of gear has +100 STR you can release gear with +95 and +105 STR and slightly different stats to go with it so that any of them can perform the job decently and you'll see an effect from equipping gear.
And yeah, talking to my WoW friends that have never played FFXI and played few FF's entirely...they're not that interesting in FFXIV, but just about everyone I know from FFXI is excited lol, everyone is hoping SE can fix the mistakes they made from lack of MMO experience with this game and do it right. There is a lot of potential here and people have faith in SE being able to create good games. They just need to get their policies right...
After careful consideration, and some thinking, Ill input a thoughtful response for once, full of a couple of suggestions for SE and general comments about reaction.
1) It would be a shame if SE AT LAUNCH of this game offer some kind of actual world (server) choice, that's up to the player. If this is omitted, I'll be quite frustrated. Not being able to follow a group/LS of friends to this new game? That would be horrible
2) People expecting some kind of in-game reward for their years of service to XI is really reaching for straws. Now, with that said though, I would be completely OK with SE offering us (the XI player base) early access to beta testings inside the actual game. That would be plenty for me.
3) This one will probably come out wrong, but what the hell, its the internet... This is XI v.2. Anyone who doesn't see it as such is really trying to fool themselves. XI was their first MMO, and they learned quite a bit from it, which I'm sure we can agree on that. But my gut feeling is that, yeah, this game will probably be totally revamped from the ground up, but everything in the game will scream XI. Battles, the mathematical side of the game, even the gear and such will probably be retreaded gear from XI (in glorious HD, mmm). Now don't get me wrong, this formula from XI has kept me around 5~ years, so not saying its damning the game, but people thinking this is 100% new content (races aside) is really pushing it.
4) Been said already, but hopefully this will bring an end to the uselessness that is the Playonline Viewer.
5) All in all, I'm excited to step into a new world again, and grow with it like I have XI. Ill be reluctant to get the PS3 version, because of the PCs ability to somehow utilize some kind of 3rd party software (ah la windower). But that's pure speculation as to if that would be even possible. Or who knows...maybe we wont even need a windower o_O
P.S This has me totally geeking out.
My guess is, if they're smart, they'll do something like give you a 300% EXP bonus for two weeks or something of the sort if you have an active FFXI account, which would actually be a worthwhile, meaningful reward that wouldn't really break the game (and give people an incentive to invest a bunch of time in the game from the get-go, making them continue to subscribe & pay them money once that period is over because now they're attached to their initial investment).
