Wow. I heard a potential rumor about Rapture being XIV last night, overheard from someone at E3 but I didn't expect it to be so similar to XI. I expected Rapture to be brand new and unrelated.
So far this is like a dream come true for an addict like me who is genuinely in love with FFXI. As long as SE doesn't muck something up royally they've pretty much gauranteed another 7 years of my support.
Well played, SE, well played.
Only thing that would make this news better would be Beta test offers for 5 year POL subscribers with accounts in good standing!

I started to tear up seeing that trailer. I'm not sure whether I was happy or troubled by the fact that my life will no longer exist come 2010 release (T_T).
i hate my life.
i had i'm on a boat playing when i watched this video. i'll never be able to take this serious ever now.
Wow, yeah. Seconded.
We are currently talking with each other if we would both switch over if it was seriously PS3 exclusive. Being able to take laptops everywhere made FFXI so realistically addicting.
I feel like a crack addict being introduced to heroin. I don't know what to do... D:
They probably haven't but you can look at some parts of FFXI and could expect those things from XIV as well..
No dynamis at all, make it like salvage/nyzul from the start
Assault type system, as well as ZNM instead of sky.
Sandworm/Ixion style worldspawns instead of 3kings
and aside from that, more WoWish feel with SE's touch to it (FoV, etc.)
I think it's reasonable to expect that from XIV, as long as the dev's are the same as before. Also no utsusemi...
I'm excited. I'll play this game for sure. Gotta buy a PS3 now.
I really couldnt agree more. Only way ill devote time to this is if i see and hear a DRASTIC change in community relations. Beating down their doors and begging them to fix a 4 year old issue and getting nothing back is very frustrating. I approach this with caution. I'd also like to add to that list, SE willingly opening their arms to community created addons, a'la WoW. That's a huge deal.I know I'll end up playing it for a bit.
They're going to have to make it a hell of a better overall experience than FFXI to keep me into it though.
Voice enable, extensive auto translate, better controls, creative and massive job and leveling systems, and more challenge without retarded conditions to name a few.
People excited about this one will be immensely put down when they see SE's conference tomorrow and sundi's briefcase full of wut's. (cookie if you catch the reference).
Hopefully it's a new game, less time intensive, more rewarding, and has actual GOOD voice acting in it. I'm not expecting much from it until I can actually play it, even then I might not even waste my time.
Seems odd to insist that FFXIV discussion go on in FFXI Advanced, considering any connection between the two online worlds is speculative at best. That wasn't a Galka, Hume == Human so the similarity is neither surprising nor revealing, etc. etc.
SE's answer to botting. PS3 ONRY.
Trailer looks good, hopefully it remedies a lot of the issues that XI has, guess we'll see, I can say that I was shocked and I'm going to keep an open mind about it to start off with.
What would seal the deal is a special edition PS3 bundle pack with custom art+ keyboard. Please.
