Theres bigger things for you to shit on imo.
That may be, but it's indicative of a fundamental lack of understanding about how shit like this works. It wasn't a surprise to them that they were releasing this info today... they could scale up, partner with a CDN to temporarily ease the burden, etc. If they haven't learned that lesson, why should we think that their servers won't get overloaded and give us errors the way we got them during popular FFXI updates? Am I the only one who remembers being locked out for a day and a half as their updates continually failed because they hadn't prepared for the capacity of everyone updating at once?

The more shit like this where they haven't learned the lesson from FFXI makes me not want to play FFXIV, that's all. It's still too soon to tell - we simply don't have enough information. But as more trickles out we'll be able to make informed decisions if we don't ignore lessons they could've learned, but didn't...

ya but think about it from other view with only est time, late night NM camping[assuming any NM like spawns from XI] would have less competition.

21-24hr spawns are there to move the HNMs through different time zones so every one gets a 'chance', no matter where you live.

If you are limiting it by region (no more than 4hours time spread) why do you need 21-24hours spawns?

Might as well stick them on a 23-25 hour timers and have them always pop some point in the prime time.

Even if they aren't directly related, if XIV winds up being XI +1, why would anyone stay playing the old outdated version, when they could upgrade to the new hotness?

The only way they could possibley create a game that would co-exist with XI would be if it was in no way shape or form even remotely related to XI. Unfortunatly they've already pretty much fuckbeaned that by making it number 14 in the series and porting over what appear to be all the same races.
FFXI is beyond repair... if they don't delete RoTZ from the game, lol. Much easier to just reset and try again... no utsusemi, no haste, no loldefense, lolblmpartyinahturhgan..etc. I agree that most will jump over to XIV, but I guess that's what SE wants after all o_o;.

After playing WoW I'd love to have regional servers. I usually play late at night. It'd be fun not having competition with NMs late at night. It might be harder to get a pt late at night, but how often do you get a pt late at night without being either a RDM, COR or BRD. I'd be really happy if SE stole everything from Blizzard except the job system, endgame, lack of story, and increasing level cap. I would especially love it if they stole the developers interacting with gamers and embracing add ons, but I doubt they will due to PS3 limitations.

This. The multicultural aspect of FFXI is what makes it such a strong game, among other things of course but for those with varying sleep cycles it's nice to log on and be able to pick up a party at anytime in the day. Regional servers isn't going to fix late night NM camping, there will be others with the same idea as you who would previously avoid camping because of the hassle. On a different note I hope they keep the concept of open Mog Houses and add to it, something like customizable wallpaper or carpet and more variation in furniture too, seats you can actually sit on would be win.

Often, very often in fact thanks to it being NA prime when it's late at night here.

Don't worry, I am sure they will release a Xbox version once the next PS comes out.

A form of utsusemi has been in Final Fantasy games since FF2
A form of haste has been in Final Fantasy games since FF2
A defense rating has been in every RPG game, ever.
A form of magical, elemental damage has been in every Final Fantasy game.

You don't want an RPG, you want hack n slash with pretty models, FF13vs is over there ====>

I was actually kinda disappointed with FFXIV not coming out for the 360 as well. Although I do have XI installed on 360, PS2 and my PC, the large majority of my playtime is on my 360. In fact when I was deciding between buying my 360 or a PS3, the fact I could easily play XI on a 360 was the deciding factor.

Hey even if we can post in advanced, are we allowed to post in your lovely topic anyway?

You're not the only one who remembers that. I also remember being locked out of the game because SE was ill prepared for their updates.

I also concur with your last statement I quoted. If FFXI was just a stepping stone for SE to make the same stupid mistakes in this MMO, I'll be skipping 14.

OK to break my posting drought. The point is that in FFXI current state utsusemi breaks the value of def and vit tanking, period. Additionally, haste is poorly instituted in the game so that it is worth more than any other stat. Currently, almost no thinking is involved to know you want haste before acc or att or anything else. The mention of loldef I'm sure was topoint out its uselessness in the face of ffxi game mechanics which makes shadows > def/vit every time. Overall I think you wooshed yourself. I'm interested in playing this game if I can get the same feeling I did playing ffxi in the early days, especially if the game is designed better its going to demand better playing from the best players to match it. Only time will tell though.

Like many others in advanced and people I've spoken to in-game about this; from a business perspective this is another way to push their products all around. I have an original PS covered in dust and a PS2 that has only been used for DVD's since I found FFXI for Windows in 2004, my other gaming habits have died out and Vana'diel has become my home.

After seeing the trailers and reading about the crystal tools gaming engine which was cutom designed by SE and is said to encompass all 'seventh generation consoles' which what i read states that the gaming engine will be compatible with ps3, windows pc, xbox, & wii. However, think that actually endorsing the game /eventually/ will be up to the companies if not made available to all platforms immediatly. Maybe I misunderstood somthing but check here: Crystal Tools - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I pulled a muscle yesterday and thus couldn't sleep so I've been up all night, doing what? Researching PS3 specs and costs atm becuase you can bet your ass that my outdated PC is not going to play FFXIV and I refuse to run the POS Microsoft OS known as Vista(which is just my personal preference). So yea, learning that I can still play most all of my dvd's, HDblu-ray if i decide to purchase (which i don't own but saw that 2009-around-this-time FFadvent children:complete((~30xtra min. to the original)) will be avail on blu-ray), original PS2/PS1 games that you can actually confirm to see if they're functional on the PS3 on Sony's website and prepick the PS3 model number you can own that is compatable with the features you want, and a mem card adaptor so all my saves don't get lost from previous games? Man... Now I've just gotta buy my PS3, gear it up- sell ps2 and stop upgrading my PC anymore. Being able to buy PS1/PS2 titles and directly DL them to PS3 is a + for me too... eh well im not here to advertise really.

But it proves my point, there is obviously a huge huge playerbase for this series of games and a lot of revenue to be brought in. A lot of companies could be involved and seeing as SE has already been caught checking these very forums between the vid teaser and the E3 convetion talks means that this is def a site worth checking for their company...

Game wise I'm excited and unsure. FFXI is dead, has been since before the salvage bans. Groups are too exclusive and won't bat an eye at somebody who doesn't have a reputation of 5years somewhere on some internet site. If they do have servers I hope to god they don't let us pick which ones we play on. Don't get me wrong I love all my friends and would hope to meet up with them in FFXIV again but if everybody just switches games w/the same ppl nobody will meet anybody new and the learning process will become stagnant if only a select few are deemed correct about a certain way of things...

More info! More teaser pics! And can I please get some opinions from ppl who use the PS3? Cost-wise it wasn't feasable for me to purchase one on release... but becuase of my recent findings I'm seriously considering buying one... opinions plz! thx!

    >.> wow just preview'd post i didn't think i had much to say, sry for the wall-o-text xD

I'm amazed that advanced can turn the intro movie of a game into a 33 page discussion.

    Don't be...

Speculation is in inverse proportion to information.

That's why there's never been a thread on tanking Tiny Mandragoras.

I hope you get to choose which type of server you want to join. I'm english, so i only speak english, i would personally prefere to play on an NA server with other people that speak non-broken english. I'm not an EU hater, but i would rather have zero language barriers... wouldn't you?

And that's coming from someone, who is writing in broken English.
What you need isn't a server excluding certain locations but one doing language tests beforehand.

Btw, there's a whole country in Europe which has English as it's native language, and had it as it's native language much longer than parts of North America.

For those interested, the SE press conference will be streamed live on G4's website starting at 11 AM PST. Maybe we will get some more info or possibly some in-game stuff? Maybe they will announce it coming to the 360 as well.
