How long has persona 5 been in development? They haven't shown any assets or trailers, only teasers. With TLG we were shown footage as early as 2009.

i think it's pretty reasonable at this point to assume it's been moved to PS4, which in turn may possibly lead to somewhat of a reboot since there are now increased possibilities because of better hardware and thus some core level changes might be being made to the way the game works. there's been speculation that the complex level of AI they wanted for the creature just wasn't working on PS3 for example, although obviously who here actually knows.

Yeah, I thought there was mention of it being moved to PS4. Once I assumed that, I figured I might as well reset the development clock and give them another 3 or so years to finish development.

Speaking Eurogamer at gamescom 2014, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told the site not to expect the game to be shown at TGS in September. It will be shown off when Sony is good and ready to do so.

“I cannot confirm any timing because we are waiting for it to be in a state where we are happy that this is the game,” said Yoshida. “We have a certain time frame in our mind, and the team is making great progress, but still not to the point that we can say that, here you go.”

Yoshida said technical issues on PS3 caused issues, but at one point, things were going well; thus the original 2011 release announcement.

“That was a mistake,” Yoshida continued, “but at one time it was looking possible. It has been totally re-engineered. They’re still working on it. I’ve been seeing the progress.”

That they came out so quickly with a statement I find kind of odd given the purgatorial nature of the game's development, but whatever. This isn't even the first time they've let the trademark expire; it happened in... 2012 I think?
