Good place to look for used US cars?

With the Canadian dollar back on the rise, I'm thinking of cashing in when it becomes good enough and buying a car in the US and importing it to Canada. I've been to a bunch of different forums, and doing such a thing can save you $5000-$20000 depending on the situation, so the only thing I have to lose is... nothing! Either way I slice it, I won't be paying more for one.

That being said, where are some sites that Americans commonly go to list used cars? For instance, in Canada we use Kijiji and AutoTrader. Kijiji has an American part to it as well, but it's lackluster at best.

Autotrader is pretty good in the states too. Vehix isn't a bad option either.

Good luck. I'm looking at picking up a new car too. I can't seem to get my eyes off a 2010 Camaro even though I know I'd have to struggle a lot if I bought it.

Kinda depends on what you are looking for.

If you want just a run of the mill used car with your basic options then Auto Trader or Vehix even Ebay are great places to start looking at.

If you have a specific brand or style of car I would try finding a dedicated forum and check the For Sale section. You can usually find a car that has already been modded with every option from an individual for close to the same price as what a dealer will be asking for the plane jane version.

Also consider how far you are willing to travel to get the car. I know the last truck I bought I went to Texas(trucks tend to be cheap down there) since I could save close to $9k. The 26 hrs down and back was well worth it.

Last thing to look at is picking up a highly rebated rig brand new off a lot. My next door neighbor just got a brand new Dodge 3500 with the Cummins for about 48% MSRP. He went to the lot to look at the used trucks but the new one was only $2k more than the 3 year old one sitting down the row from it. Right now dealers down here are almost giving last years inventory away.

Assuming these are both real events, I can't do either of these.

Type of car is specific ('06-'09 IS350). eBay and AutoTrader have been good to me so far.

Sure you have already been to my.IS/forums. I see more 300's over there than 350's but some nice modded ones going for decent prices.

The only other thing I would have to add is be sure to either have a knowledgeable friend or reputable mechanic look at the car before any money is exchanged. I know of far to many people who get burned on deposits and plane tickets just to find out the car is crap when they look at it.

And yes both of those are real. Just went to the county impound auction last weekend and got 2 ex police cruisers for $500/ea. sold em both for $1k/ each within 2 days.

my.IS is my second home. =P I love that forum (I've had an IS300 for a few years now).

But yeah, there aren't too many 350s for sale there... I guess I'll keep looking out on AT/eBay/Kijiji.
