Main thing I pray for is a job system like the other. What set FF apart for me is the fact that you can level more then one job on the same character. If that stays somewhat similar then I'll have no choice to play. But if you can't level more then one job on the same character then I honestly might not pick it up.

oh god this is so true, i loved not having to redo a bunch of missions and reputation type events on various jobs because i already had them, and when gear transferred (ex especially) from job to job it was just so nice to already have it on a single character

That was easily one of my favorite things from FFXI. The talent system in WoW is great and all, but being able to level every job and change to different subjobs was just really fun and made me really like FFXI. Other things kind of ruined that for me, but I will just remain hopeful that they will fix those types of things.

    Quoted again for absolute truth.

I really like how they stress storytelling and high quality graphics (which I assume means cutscenes too) I haven't found a mmo yet that even comes close to the storyline of COP and that's important to me. The grind becomes really boring after the 20,000th "go kill 10 of these" quest.

I am worried about the casual solo content. To SE that means it'll be completely unrewarding to prevent RMT spam. That or impossible to do.

    I still can't wait.

I'm coming in late so pardon the stupid question but is this "Rapture"? I can assume so but not sure.

Edit: yeah it was a stupid question but in my defense I stay out of Advanced.

I don't know, I watched the trailer and read this with only miniscule interest. I think the time I spent in 11 has turned me off of mmorpgs for a long while. Maybe closer to release time I'll be interested, but as of now, I couldn't care less. Nothing they said made me believe they weren't going to fuck up as bad as they did in 11.

The casual solo content could also reward exp or items which cannot be sold/traded (think AF).

And there are ways to balance an economy around quests that reward nontrivial amounts of money without tipping the scales in favor of the RMT.

If there are, you may want to forward them onto SE.

    What Norelco said.

Don't get me wrong, I want it tough like ffxi. I miss the well organized parties.

On another note: Making the races look like ffxi is transparent pandering. If I can't port my ffxi character give me something new. I stared at the back of that head long enough.

I can already see people asking 14 devs for abilities their characters had in 11.

So this begs the question...would you play the same job/class as your main in 14 or would you try something new?

We will expand the job system to make it fairly different from the one in FFXI.
I'm not expecting the job system to be like FFXI especially after they stated this; however I do hope they realize that the one thing FFXI did right was allow people to change jobs without having to make a new character. I really can't imagine that we wouldn't be allowed to change jobs. It's just one of those things that separated FFXI from other MMOs.

I was a mithra on 2 characters last time. Gonna be a taru this time around, a large taru assuming we can change sizes. I also hope the battle system is more engaging than in 11.

Every mmo seems to have the same class types. warrior type , paladin type, DD mage, suport mage, thief/rogue DD type, and some type of pet job. I can also see how ffxi people are gonna ask for the same type jobs to get the same type abilities. It's gonna be hard to deviate from that formula too far but I would really love if they did.

    I'd probably stay the same.

The one thing that I am mostly happy about seems to be one of the biggest things I've heard people bitch about. And that's not being able to transfer over characters. You know how bogus it would fucking be if that happened? There would be no way what so ever that I'd play. The most joy I had from FFXI was being a noob and learning everything for the first time. I also like being the best at whatever I do and it would be impossible if we had thousands of players maxed from the start (all whom would have no idea what they were doing anyway).

I retired from FFXI about 2 years ago, but you're right, my fondest memories were meeting people when I was a level 5 and partying up with people in Konchstat highlands and then Valkurm at level 10, getting owned by Goblins.

The fun was in learning the game together while getting to know one another. Endgame was just full of fucking egos.

Heh, I remember my first character ever was a Galka monk named Warrick (ripped it off the black dude from CSI). I got him to 18 mostly through solo'ing EP, and then read that stupid brady games guide that said Galka may not be a good race choice for Monk, so wanting to be the best at my job that I can be and didn't knowing that I could switch jobs at any time, I blew my Galka away and started over.

I must have done this like 5 times until settling on an Elvaan Warrior and became a Paladin named Norelco...thus beginning my career of naming my characters after shaving products.

    Norelco - Elvaan
    Gillette - Taru
    Lady Schick - Mithra
    Braun - Galka
Remmington - Hume (bearded of course)

    I did Paladin/Dark Knight in 11

Knowing what I know about SE and after having played XI, I'm going to instead pick Samurai/Ninja right off the bat instead of waiting 3-5 years for any sort of balancing to be done to the classes I like.

I did mostly melee and tanking classes in 11 before i quit. This time i am going mage and instead of a hume i will be a taru.

I'm in the same boat. Getting to 75 with everyone being a noob are some of my fondest memories of playing.

End game killed FF for me. Once there was nothing left to adventure and it was all about phat loot, politics and bots, I became uninterested.
