a lot of seniors suffer from depression. i wouldn't say suicide is the most surprising cause of death for someone his age. if he was facing divorce, serious illness, or possibly some particularly bad news about his career, finances, daughters, etc. i can see how that might be overwhelming at 72. think about it; what kind of chance do you think a 72 year old man has of rebuilding any part of his life, professional or personal? that might seem like a hopeless situation to some.
