So far Trooper and Bounty Hunter are the only officially announced classes. The website is well done and has info on classes and combat strategies implored by them.

I thought they released a bunch of information on smuggler at E3? I can't hit most of the gaming sites here at work or I'd go check myself.
The game has some real potential, with Bioware at the helm. What will be the make-or-break of it, I think, is whether they can really keep up with the story-based play. I imagine they'll have plenty of grind in there, too; it's hard to imagine an MMO without it. Ir seems that they've been trying hard to craft an environment which can accomodate the mass numbers of Jedi and Sith the game will see, at least at first. Once the game has been going on for a while, I think some people will move on to other classes. Some of this is because of Galaxies'... interesting... decision to almost entirely excise Jedi from the game; you'll get a lot of people who just want to TRY it. If you can't stand the flood of Force users, just wait a few months. People will figure out tricked out combinations with others.
Obligatory, Rayis Camia. I kinda like it. I love the Tropper class, though -- it screams cannon fodder. If I do play, I think I'll try one named Groat Pikeman, just for a more subtle version of K'nun Fouder.
It should be pointed out that the troopers described on the TOR website are not the same as the troopers we're familiar with from the movies. They are an elite force within the larger Republic military who often take the roles occupied by Jedi Knights in combat when no Jedi are available.
Yeah, that's kinda the way I though it'd be. Not every jedi is Luke Skywalker, because major protagonists in the movies have god-mode on. However, not every trooper is another stormtrooper cannon fodder clone. The jedis you play would be considerably less awesome than the ones in the movies, and the soldiers would be considerably more awesome, putting people on the same level more or less.
Obligatory Manpe O'csou. Brb changing my name by deed poll so my jedi name doesn't suck. I may pick up this game if I have any time to burn in the next two years.
A pretty interesting interview.

Alot of talk about the gameplay and some of the choices they made/are making with the game.
Star Wars: The Old Republic – A New Hope For MMOs? : The MMO Gamer
Bumping with content.
Great interview, I already feel like the devs are cool people. I especially appreciated how, in response to a comment on the multi-branch conversation system, they said:So true, whenever someone on the forums says, 'such and such' is such a cool, unique idea! Somebody has to correct them and cite some obscure Korean MMO with something similar, haha. That’s something very rare-I don’t want to say unheard of, because I’m sure there’s probably some obscure Korean MMO out there that’s done it before-but, I’ve certainly never seen it done on this scale in a Western title.
Also cool to see them say something like this, in response to generic MMO combat:MMOs are very slow-paced, it’s you versus one enemy, and you hit him fifteen times until he dies. That’s something we’ve consciously moved away from in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
You’re fighting against multiple enemies, the action is fast-paced, there’s a lot more animations going on.
And preferably to get rid of the “Fight one guy for a minute and a half, then sit down and eat bread.
A lot of this is obvious, I am just glad someone is using their common sense at this point. Well I won't know until I get to play the game.
EDIT: Also this game will be called the first "story MMO", no matter. FFXI doesn't exist for some reason.
This sounds exactly like the way FFXI does it's CS. Which isn't a bad thing at all, it's just not something new. How they can say a branching conversation system "may have been found in some Korean MMO" while ignoring the fact that their story telling style is used by one of the biggest MMOs currently out there is a bit confusing.Daniel Erickson: So, when you’re in there, we can do things while you’re talking to the NPCs that aren’t necessarily being represented to the rest of the game world.
James Ohlen: Plus, you don’t have to put up with when you’re talking to your Sith lord somebody coming up and doing the /grind dance right beside you. [laughing]
James Ohlen:But, what you saw right in there had the working system. It’s basically a staged system. When you start up a conversation, everyone is on their stages and they’re able to play all of their animations, say all their lines, it’s very cinematic.
But, it still works within the confines of the public zone. What you saw in there was in a flashpoint, which is instanced, but that could also have taken place, and looked just as good, had it taken place in a public area.
Still, it's definitely worth trying out.
Looks promising, cannot wait till this game comes out....always been a big Star Wars fan /Sith![]()
