Speaking of wine, I'm going to be throwing a Tour De Franzia party. Anyone have a good suggestion for boxed wines (though I'll probably just go with the cheapest, boxstands are just that).

The kind of wine I drink usually depends on what I'm eating, as I don't tend to often have wine on it's own. When I do though, I like reds like merlots, unless I want something cool, then I'll go for some form of white wine.

Of course, you can always be super classy, take the Franzia wine bag out of the box and play slap the bag -- everyone wins.

Fuckin love chateauneuf du pape, Its pricy here, but can usually find it cheap in the holiday season, so i stock up then.

I do love pretty much all reds, as long as they dont taste like vinegar. I like Rose too, but drink it way to quick and get hammered easy, white wine is Yukkkkkkk!

the only one I know by name that I like was a cotes du rhone I got for a wine and cheese party. it was cheap, only around $15 on sale, but extremely good. I'm not a big wine guy though, only if I'm drinking it casually with dinner or something. If I want a good buzz I'd rather go for booze.

I prefer my Whites to be any of the following:

refreshing, mineral notes, effervescent, dry, crisp, floral notes

fruit notes allowed if not sweet.

Sweet white wines are not allowed.

Anyway, yeah. I've been going to a weekly wine-tasting group for the past 3.5 years. I probably try 500 different wines every year. I'll be going this Sunday to the LA Wine Fest (for free...pwn).

All ya'll winos should sign up: The Young Winos - Edutoxicating Los Angeles and Beyond since 2005 - we have 6 chapters now and it's a great place to learn about wine (and meet eligible members of the opposite, or sometimes same, sex). We had a blind wine tasting competition - taste the wine and then guess what varietal it is and what country (or state) it's from. I fucking dominated, I'm really good at this.

Personally I love me a good Petite Sirah, or Zinfandel, or Syrah. Well-done Merlot and Cabernet is harder to come by in our tasting range ($12-$20 usually) but occasionally we'll find nice ones.

I'm a bigger fan of reds than whites by a long shot, but I do enjoy a good white Burgundy (French Chardonnay) or Torrontes (a floral varietal mainly grown cheaply in Argentina).

Check out The Young Winos - Edutoxicating Los Angeles and Beyond since 2005 though - we currently have chapters in LA, Orange County, San Diego, Central Coast (CA), San Francisco, Albany (NY), and I think we're adding a Boston one soon. If anyone is really ambitious and wants to open a chapter in their city, you can contact the guy who runs the club (my roommate) and talk to him about starting one up.

Anyway, nobody has seriously mentioned Ports yet? Easily my favorite style.

I pretty much only drink straight-up red wine. white and rose can be ok, and I enjoy them at wine tastings, but for some reason I just never feel like having a glass. which I should change, I've sampled a few whites that were as complex as any fine red you could find.

i always enjoy a good local blackberry wine when i can get my hands on it.(lives in a county thats dry). i dont really like your regular grape wines, they just seem too bitter to me

for the record you're supposed to chill red wines as well. it's best drank at around 55 degrees.

People always say room temperature, but you never ask who's room. typically it was the french cellars which are much cooler than our areas. red wine served at 75+ degrees which is a typical room temp in america is nasty. learn2wine.

A full bodied syrah is terrific, you can pick up a great bottle for around 20-25$ it makes a huge difference. If you think an 8$ bottle is just as good you need to try more variety.

mostly i drink reds but every now and then if i want something sweeter i'll try a riesling, german and italian are best. Spatlese ftw.


Mostly if you follow the ABC's of wine you can't go wrong. Anything But Chardonnay.

You can find this French wine at Fred Meyers/QFC, and maybe Safeway, in the French wine section. Its about $9/bottle I believe. A phenomenal wine for its price.

Grenache 50%, Syrah 20%, Carignan 15% and 15% Cinsault.

Appearance : deep cherry red.
Nose : ripe fruit, rich and spicy.
Palate : good solid red wine with pleasant tannins.

Their White is equally amazing.

It is from the Cotes du Luberon, and is also a perfectly balanced blend.

Grenache blanc 30%, Bourboulenc 30%, Ugni blanc 30%, Roussanne 10%.

Appearance : bright pale yellow with hints of green.
Nose : green fruit, corn and hazel-nuts.
Palate : soft, balanced and deliciously aromatic.

To be honest, all three of their wines are great. The third is a rose from Cotes du Ventoux.

Cinsault 50%, Grenache 40%, Syrah 10%

Appearance : a lovely deep pink hue.
Nose : floral, with a touch of aniseed and brown sugar.
Palate : very rich, balanced, caramel, toffee.

Check them out next time you're go to the store! Look for the chicken on the bottle. :D
