um abs dex????
WHEN PPL THOUGHT THE FKN ORCS IN MONASTIC CAVERN DROPPED THEM?
thx alla
ps. they dont drop there
* Beating CoP pre nerf (lost 40k + between 3 different jobs on airship)~ To this day I feel that is the best story line ever of FFXI and worth every death~
* Joining Magitek (Some may not feel this is an accomplishment but it is something I'll never regret/forget and its the friends I've met(many irl) in this LS~)
* Solo tanking my first large thing(Suzy) on NIN/DRK (had alot of support but man that made my fingers shake)
* I squeeled when my RDM hat dropped ~ and screamed when my -1 rdm hat dropped(both on vent <.<; ) -- So these were definite accomplishments..
* Solo Gration on RDM/NIN (Warm up for next...)
* Solo Fenrir on RDM/NIN
* 100 Alch/Bone~
* Relic Gun -- I dont think anything can compare to this ~
Defeating one of my former linkshell's leaders one-on-one in the only Ballista I have ever done.
Pretty much all my best or otherwise most memorable accomplishments are on MNK, so here's a selected list from someone who's taken way too long to get some basic things in vaguely chronological order:
1/1 solo Magicked Skull, blowing my 2hour because I thought it was going to be a hard fight. Also, using Kingdom Cesti back when many NAs didn't know where the crafted CP items even came from. Sure, they weren't Republic Knuckles, but this was back shortly after NA release.
Getting my AF body and selling off my Jujitsu Gi. Literally a day or two before the massive hyperinflation. Yeah. Great timing there. Greatest can also mean "most facepalm-inducing."
Killing Hellion in an exp party, with the leader declaring freelot on the scythe. I won it and kept it in storage for years before I got my WAR high enough to use it. It might not be impressive with its practical applications, but it's a great example of the random sorts of "wtf" things you don't ever forget.
Being invited to a manaburn. Yes, this is as MNK. They had me Chi Blast pulling. I dare anyone to find a more wtf manaburn setup than BLM BLM BLM BLM BLM MNK.
AF legs stand out a lot for me because this was back in the year when I was in my 60s at best and nobody wanted to kill a 30000-HP yag for worthless pants. Finally getting them didn't get me anything more than the title and a sense of completion, but god damn was/is it a sense of completion.
Claiming Morbolger. I waited around one day for like 8 hours because I didn't have his time of death, then left for the night. Next afternoon I came back in to some competition. He was afk when Morbolger spawned directly on top of him, and my hands were actually shaking as I got the claim.
Somehow managing a ~1300 damage Raging Fists to a random mob at 65 or so. My Asurans don't even go that high to the same mobs, and I'm still not sure what kind of bizarre Double Attack/crit action led to that.
Beating Maat, including guarding two crits from him for about 50-60 damage each. Another hands-shaking-afterwards experience. Hilariously, he never WSed me.
1/2 Mee Deggi. Another NM where I'm lucky enough to be near it as it spawns and others are out of range or afk. The first kill was from like a year prior and more an LS member going "hey, I'm bored, while we're here let's see if Mee Deggi's up," so I look at it like 1/1. My jaw may actually have dropped as I read "You find a pair of ochimusha kote on Mee Deggi the Punisher." Of course, Quu Domi refuses to give me anything but swords.
666 damage Chi Blast to Kirin. Because funny numbers make me giggle.
While farming Onzozo for manta skins and chests, finding Peg Powler and having to 2hour and call my Soothing Healer NPC to survive. Then deciding to see if Mysticmaker Profblix is up. He was. End result is I actually got Schwarz Axt and Moldavite Earring within 3 minutes of each other.
Beating the final ACP mission. I saw a /shout for some MNKs, figured given what I'd read that it was a doomed strategy, but decided what they hey and accepted. I was an idiot and forgot to get the cutscene while doing my tower climb (though some JP one-upped that prior and forgot to do his tower climb to begin with), so the win time was much longer than it should've been. The result, well, see my sig. It was a very short fight (only lasted about a minute), but tense and epic and several of us were one aoe melee away from death when I got the killing blow. It amazes me that zerging it doesn't seem to be more common.
Finally, finally getting my Destroyers after using Waghs for longer than believable. Pickup Double Dragonian groups led to going something like 2/20 on them, with me being out-lotted on the first one to drop. To give you an idea of how long I was using the damned Waghs, to this day I still associate >100% TP with gimped damage.
Doing lowman CoP for a current LS. Say what you will about "it was more epic pre-nerf," you can't deny that 4-man Mea takes some kind of talent. Plus getting eaten alive by the boss close to the end of the fight, reraising, casting Utsu, then seeing "3 of Tyran's shadows absorb the damage and disappear" after Carousel was a crazy "holy shit" moment. Lowman 2-3 surprised me with how easy it was, and 2-5 was ridiculously simple. 3-5 was fun as hell with only 4 people.
Sure, there's not a whole lot of impressive "getting relic, completing mythic, killing DL" stuff in there, but I don't do a whole lot of endgame (working evenings/weekends for about 2 straight years sucks). Hell, most of this list is from 2006 at the latest, because that's where a lot of my most memorable moments come from.
I forgot to add this earlier.
Beating COP pre-nerf and going 1/1 on every fight. We used the combo of Blm Blm Nin Nin Whm Brd for every fight except snoll, where we used 2 Wars instead of 2 Nins. We started the SP at Diabolos
2005: Getting Airship access at level 26, being dragged through Castle O, Beadeaux, and Davoi with my social shell.
Dinging Nin75 in April 2007. Winning Koga Tekko 3 months later, the first time i stepped into Dynamis-Xarcabard, and two months later winning the tekko-1 in my first Dynamis-Bubu (yes, a screenshot made the WTFGIMP thread, thank you Terrestrialrage)
dring, av kill, getting sea, getting sky, pld to 75 first job back before the shield buff, farming treants in wajaom while nig's were still fighting for the ones that were 1/10th the drop in the tavnanzia zone
Stepping into Jeuno for the first time. It was such a crazy walk at level 18.
Finally dinging SMN 75, first 75 job and it was an uphill battle all the way (Cure3 FTW!).
Doing COP with LS was a ton of fun too.
That's pretty damn awesome lol. It reminds me of the time my LS convinced both our main tanks to tank genbu in wedding gear. It was just funny to watch, especially when one of the tanks was like "Why do you guys want me to tank in wedding gear? It's got no stats/it's gay lolz" completely genuine about the inquiry too. Wish my computer didn't crash a few times.. lost those pictures.![]()
Mine's probably sky related too. A good few years ago I joined a meripo when I only had one 75 job: RDM, turns out half the members of the party were in a sky LS and were seeking competent mages, so I took a pearl, not really knowing what sky was all about because I was a newbie. The first event was the next day.
So we started off farming a bit then moved on to Suzaku, which I chainspell stunned.. It was exciting for me, first god and all. I don't recall what dropped but it was the linkshell's first sky run together so everyone was rather psyched up. Then the main leader suggested we do Kirin, and of course everyone was pumped for that. So we headed over (My first kirin portal was 1/1..!)
Fight went fine - most of the members had done it before whereas it was my first time. Anyway, since it was the first run everyone was allowed to lot on what they wanted. So then two W Legs drop.. My first ever sky run and I get W Legs. People weep at me ): Needless to say I've had sucky luck since..!
I'm proud of that. Many other things I'm proud of too really but that's the one that remains in my mind.
Yeah, Ni was just too damn pricey. I think I finally bought it when my BLU hit 75. Until then I had NIN as a sub but only BLM and SMN as mains... not a whole lot of use for it.
We had one of our NIN/DRKs tank Kirin in Opaline, he insisted in keeping his movement boots though. Wuss:

Beating Maat as RDM (1/10)
Beating COP pre-nerf (1/1 on most stuff,, and having Charismatic in my group is the only thing that kept me sane)
Getting banned for duping salvage drops. (I had been wanting to quit, and it just made the decision for me easier.)
I remember when I got Cooking to 50. For a crafting system so foreign and uninviting, it felt like a great achievement.
Getting Windurst rank 10, I remember the night, 4 best friends and my brother, all IRL neighbors and best friends. We were all rank 6 and one night we were just like lets get rank 10. 8 hours later we had rank 10 and an 8 hour vent convo saved.
Just the other week we relistened to the vent convo from last year and honestly shit our pants laughing at how epic that night was and the convos that took place
Back in early 05? I was so shocked when I won my 1st Eco-Warrior and later on going to win the other 2 nations
Lving WAR to 68 /MNK Cause Blood Tanking With a Axe/Shield was the way to go lol (I Finshed WAR /NIN if your wondering lol)
Along those lines, I remember starting on Yagudo Drinks right at 50 and not even caring that I broke more than not at first because they were 4000 gil each. It was a fun cap-off to getting Cooking to 60 with only 10k to start off with.
I really wish I had more patience in those days. Yag Drinks were a goldmine.
Clearing CoP when it was still a challenge.
When I zoned into sea I just stared at my screen for couple of minutes in awe. To this day every time i'm in sea I'm happy.
Lots of other things that made me very happy but not worth putting it all here
Getting Apoc was pretty epic and something I'm immensely proud of but I think I was happier when I got my Adaberk. Waited for what seemed like an age knowing I was next in line (It wasn't that long, about 10 months) and then when it did finally drop I was in hospital after having double lung surgery twice within a week. I frantically tried to get FFXI working off the hospital connection for days as it was blocked in so many god damn ways. Then I finally managed it whilst morphined up to hell but it was about 5 minutes too late. I really thought I was doomed to never get it. So when I finally did get it along with the immediate mass of tells from a crap ton of people, half of which I have no idea how they knew so fast, it just felt so damn good.
Apoc is a very close run second. It was great but kind of diminished by someone I really wanted to be there being missing. Hindsight is a bitch. If they had been there it would have probably topped it.
COR to 75 in like under 3 weeks was pretty cool too especially since there weren't many kicking around on the server at the time.
Not really comparable as it's too different but some of the friends I've made along the way is one I'm pretty fond of too. Some of whom I would like to think will be lifelong friends.
